Yeah, football has probably benefited from modern media like no other sport. Now everyone can watch everything.
I remember how excited I was back in the 90's when I was able to watch Serie A games lol.
My grandmother went to Italy in the 80’s and brought me back AC Milan swag including three mini posters of Van Basten, Rykaird and Guillet. Know spelling is off but on phone. I was in heaven.

My friends dad was right off the boat from Italy. used to satellite in Italian matches. Our entire soccer team was always at their house

Van Basten was my first favorite player. Barely watched him play though because he retired so early.

Except for Premier League fans who actually live in England.

Their blackout rules are 30 years out of date.

@Striiker i think your mother has you this week, but if you're a good noodle maybe I'll see if I can take you.

Still so mad about Fridays game.

Clear penalty in the box, refs ignore it, refuse to even look at it, the video ref does nothing, our manager gets a yellow card, and we end up tying 1-1.

Then one day later the league and refs both say it was definitely a penalty and even that specific ref says he was wrong to refuse to review it, but it’s all worthless and too f***ing late.

Now Bayern can get back into 1st with a win today.

They just re-sodded it last year with a new grass type, so it may be fine. I'm sure part of the stipulations in going there involve the field itself though, as no one wants to get injured in pre-season.
Yeah one way or another I’m sure it will be decent. The Linc is field turf right? I’m trying to remember way back when I saw Chelsea/Milan.,.. if they brought in grass or not. I think they did

According to Google, same grass at Chicago, just a slightly different blend
Just looked that up. Very interesting. The grass technology must make the pitches so much better playing compared to my glory days.

We had lights on our soccer field so all our rivals wanted to play us under lights as well. Unfortunately they only had lights on the football field. Playing on a crowned field, let alone how shitty the grass was always sucked.

My glory days were the parks in the NE, where the fields were largely 100 yards of dirt with the occasional green patch of grass. Port Richmond Leprechauns stand up

Yeah I was pretty lucky growing up. When I was around ten or so my town built a beautiful complex for soccer fields.

I feel like even amateur football fields in the UK, even up North where get rain ~200 days a year, are generally high quality.

The "grass" at most top ~2 tier teams in the UK is interesting.

About 95% of the pitches are grass... but ~5% are artificial grass fibres to reinforce it and make sure that rain etc does not turn it to slop.

Like the HERO system, SISGrass for example. Which passes the rules for natural grass and is heavily used in Football and Rugby in Europe.

This is way too easy. Chelsea are a mess.

Aubameyang looks like he doesn't even care.

I’m a lot older than you !

Thanks for saying it! Didn’t want to hurt feelings

Edit: just realized they took him off at half. The pregame, he was just smirking before kickoff . You called that!

In America there is so much soccer played on artificial grass, and yet the big brands generally don't sell their AG boots here in stores. You have to order custom versions, or import them from Europe. It's really bizarre, especially since playing in FG boots on turf can be genuinely dangerous.

That is so strange.

Basically every English kid growing up (this was for me back in like ~2000 or so) had 2-3x pairs of boots.

Metal studs (can play winter in them with removable studs and able to change length of studs for less muddy pitches)
Astro boots with moulded plastic studs of a medium length... can play on grass with the longer ones and also astro.
Indoor boots which can also kiiiind of get away with on low quality astro for 5 and 6-aside.
