Messi trying to help Haaland win the Ballon D'Or too.

Probably his only legit competition with the change from calendar year to in season given the WC win. Given Mbappe has not been quite as good as Messi and both play in a league that is not quite at Prem, La Liga, Bundesliga level. (and behind Serie A, albeit a lot closer)

Though guess more than 50% of City fans would say De Bruyne has actually been our best player again this year overall. 9 goals and 27 assists in 42 games while also usually running the whole game.

Pray for Stat

Toeman, even with your leaky defense I never had any expectation of winning that game. We have exactly zero peoppe on this team who can score goals with any regularity. Lampards terrible tactical setup doesn't help that, was the same under Potter, too.

There's a very real chance - id put it above 80% given who we have left to play - we end the season with a negative goal differential. That hasn't happened in almost 30 years. All while having (before that game, anyway, haven't bothered to look) thr 4th best GA stat.

Lukaku to the rescue!

People forget he was the clubs top scorer last season aha.

Getting rid of Abraham, Werner, Lukaku in quick succession and replacing them with... a washed up Aubameyeng and Sterling who is a winger who works in a very specific way... yeh, kind of easy to see why they cannot score. Felix and Mudryk are good players but also not "scorers"... both have always needed a #9 to really work well.

Felix had Suarez, Morata.
And Mudryk is a kid who while talented has scored a grand total of 12 goals in 87 games at a professional level.

The last 2 years they have really been very "Flyerish"... no overall philosophy, no actual team-building and direction in place.

Contrast that with City, what Arsenal has done under Arteta, Klopp's whole Liverpool reign, what Newcastle are doing under Howe... and even the way Ten Haag has worked since taking over?

Yeh, you can never win the Prem without building a "team" everyone is too good. No team wins with just a collection of expensive good players, no-one ever has!

Really they should do something like:

Bring in a guy like Nagelsmann, Amorim, Kompany... young with a very specific vision of how to play football and who have guys around them already who they would bring in to give team a real stamp and strong backroom staff. And give them proper carte blanche... to run things how THEY want.

Because they will know better than Boehly and his merry band of ill fitting puzzle pieces. It was COMICAL that Boehly himself was sporting director for so long, lmao, what hubris.

I mean, they now have Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart and Christopher Vivell in key roles... all have solid track records, but also screams "going out and buying the best toys in the shop" without a thought for how their philosophies fit together. Unlike City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle... and now United, who have far more consistent teams in place ideology wise.

I think the Graham Potter debacle has shown us that that's not going to happen at Chelsea. Boehly wants success and he wants it now.
How are they even going to bring in new players in the summer without escaping FFP sanctions? There will be no Champions League money this time. They'll have to sell a shit load of players and if other teams are smart, they're not going to do Chelsea the favor and overpay for overrated dross like Mason Mount.

Weston McKennie might just retire after this game. Jeez.

Both goals and an Alvarez chance arguably because he got lost in coverage. It should be 4-0 or 5-0.

Roca also looks totally lost.

Two of the clubs highest earners too.

Rasmus Kristensen is probably the main reason it is not 4 or 5. Some key blocks and tackles.

Lol Haaland gives up the PK to Gundogan for the potential hattrick, he misses and Leeds scores seconds later.

I never undersrood the htpe around McKennie. Always seemed like your prototypical complimentary player.

I believe he was also grossly at fault for a US goal against Oranj at the WC too.

Carvajal could have bee sent off for multiple yellows... ref did not want to give any out in first half.

But what a great game. City were the better team but could have easily been any number of scores... from 2-1 to 3-2 either way.

City now need to just do what they do at home... away was the hard part.

It has been 26 games since City lost a Champions League game at home... vs Lyon in the group in 2018-19.

And they have not lost a home knock-out game since 2017-18 (vs Liverpool)...

10-0-1
34 goals for
8 goals against

in home knock-out games since that loss.

Albeit not all were against Real Madrid! (though 2/11 were... and they won both... one 4-3 and one 2-1)

I will be in Philly May 17 & 18. Going to the Union game Taking the Wilmington/Newark train near my room to a transit station in West Chester. From there I can take what Maps claims is a 7 minute bus ride or burn a few calories walking to Subaru Park. How is the area around the transit center and Subaru Park? Is there anything worth doing or seeing or is it a dull affair like Toyota Park in Bridgeview was? Trying to gage if worth going early or not. Bars? Local sites? Tailgating? I am down for anything.

I think there's a brewery nearby, but Chester isn't the greatest of areas. If you stay by the Park you'll be fine, but I wouldn't stray too far.
