Yeah you did assume…incorrectly. And since there are more US hockey fans than Canada’s entire population, it’s a pretty ignorant comment to make.
even if there are more hockey fans in the US it's still more popular in Canada.

4th most popular sport in USA and it's the most popular in Canada.

you can't say that. you don't speak for everyone, only your self. and no it's not ignorant. hockey just isnt that popular in the Southern States, most people would rather play basketball, football or baseball.

why else do you think they had to add a red line for shots/slapshots and blue lines for passes (Glow Puck)? it's because most American's/Casuals don't find it interesting and have a hard time tracking the puck

FoxTrax was only used for 3 years more than 25 years ago and was universally panned by diehards and casuals alike. You bringing it up doesn’t reinforce your point. If anything, it proves the opposite: the project was short lived because even casual fans didn’t need it.

No you’re wrong about a great deal.

Bro I live in the US & am very well versed on US sporting habits. Something you’re clearly not.

You have no clue what you’re talking about. By the way, I hope you get Matthews comes from Arizona…you know..one of those places that doesn’t care about hockey.

No I'm really not but we can agree to disagree

oh so you speak for everyone then lmao Arizona failed miserably, there will be hockey fans everywhere but most would rather watch or play other sports which is why hockey is the least watched sport there

Bettman has been on a mission to grow the NHL in the South for like 20-30 years so really you just dont know what your talking about, it's pretty simple really.... hockey is just more popular in colder areas

Bettman’s strategy has worked out brilliantly. The NHL is now a billion dollar business which stretches continent wide.

Better still, the percentage of US players in the league has been growing. In the not too distant future, the US will supply the majority of talent.

It’s just inevitable.

yeah just cost us multiple years of lockouts since he got his job. Im not saying he did a bad job either
the percentage has been growing which is a good thing but still very difficult to get majority of people from the south to enjoy our incredible game.

the problem really is its a cold weather sport. we have some places that are very warm that love hockey for sure but it's just not as accessible for many to play or grow interest.

one day the US will likely supply majority of the talent that's prob because it's just WAY TOO expensive here in Canada now but there will always be HIGH END talent coming out of Canada

The idea that the lockouts were to protect the southern American markets, but not to protect the vulnerable Canadian markets is laughable. They were for both.

I know it was a different time for TV ratings but Fox regular season NHL ratings was a 2.1 for season 1 and 2.0 for season 2. Outstanding ratings by any standard. They did show a few regional games at the same time like MLB does.
Fox wanted to have all Stanley Cup Finals games on broadcast television. Gary Bettman chose ESPN exclusively for 600 million over five years. Probably a mistake. Going to Sports Channel America (51 million for three years and they picked of the 4th year for only 5 million) over ESPN was also an error being in only 20 million homes. Also, choosing the Outdoor Network over ESPN was another blunder. A few extra dollars were prioritized over much needed exposure was in hindsight not a great move. I might add he thought NBC Sports Channel (formally Versus) would be successful as part of the NBC deal for 10 years. Sports Channel America, The Outdoor Network (later Versus) and becoming NBC Sports Channel all went out of business. Overall he is improving with each TV/Media rights deal and has grown to be a very good commissioner. Sorry, I digressed as the Fox years brings back a lot of post traumatic stress over some poor TV deals through the decades. We all want to see the league do well.
