It's a weird situation because had we just drafted Zadina, we would have gotten the worse player yes, but how different would our situation have been?

Lol come on.

That will be the first domino to set it off.

I didn't do the math before. It's actually Tkachuk and two roster players (JBD+MacEwan) for Lafreniere+Kakko+Lindgren. That should be compliant if they do the math so it might spook the one guy who insisted Lafreniere was better than Tkachuk.

Boucher goes to the Rangers as a nice little side plot, and I'd like to think the Senators get some sort of highly protected 1st but who knows. The spirit realm is murky right now.

I think he has to go somewhere that already has a strong veteran presence where he doesn't have to be the guy, at least for now.

He was put in a bad situation from the start in Ottawa. Stone was traded in year 1. We never had a strong veteran core with him. Compare that to Matthew in Calgary. While parts of their core were young, they had a stronger veteran persence.

Can you imagine taking Alfredsson, Philips, Spezza, Neil, Fisher (partly), Kuba, etc off those Sens teams that Karlsson started on and then making him the captain with no real veteran guidance to look to.

I understand why people are disappointed in the entire situation and how this rebuild is clearly failing to materialize as we hoped, but before people attack Tkachuk personally and make assumptions about his quality as a leader or a person, I think they should objectively look at the situation he was developed in as a young star. Also, none of us have any idea about who does what or behaves what way in the room - so a lot of these are assumptions made just based on what body language or actions people see on TV or at the arena on the ice.
For real. The Sens rebuild is/was basically just the NHL version of Lord Of The Flies or something. Just toss a bunch of kids together in a small, isolated shithole and see what happens. So when you end up with a bunch of guys who have no composure, or maturity, or resilience could you have ever really expected anything different?

I've long had a theory that this is why the players bonded so much with DJ Smith. He was all they had, it was literally them against the world. Not only were there no quality veteran players on the ice, but there weren't even any experienced people around the team in the front office. Most teams have advisors, alumni and all sorts of other people around the team you can get some perspective from. In Ottawa it was just Pierre Dorion.

There is no way that anybody around the league thinks this is a Brady Tkachuk problem as opposed to an Ottawa Senators problem. Teams have got to be salivating at the prospect of getting him out of this environment.

the whole needing brady to lead and its all his fault is such a pathetic way to excuse others from having responsibilities. Not sure if people expect Brady to carry. the team or something but we need way more from so many other guys making a lot of money

Reminds me of people blaming Alfie or Karlsson when they were one of the few bright spots in some pathetic ass performances from others

Norris 8 mill
Perron 4 mill
Pinto 3.75mill

All need to check themselves and play half as hard as Brady

Seriously. Pinto has 3 points in 12 games, he's completely invisible out there. Norris also needs to be better but he's missed a lot of hockey so he's got a bit of an excuse. Perron has 0 points on the year, again completely invisible.

For Pinto and Perron's contracts alone we could add a prime Hoffman type scorer at 7.75 mil and put Ostapchuk or Greig on the 3rd line and Gregor back in the lineup. Insane people want to trade Brady before attempting to do something like that first.

God hates the Ottawa Senators. Green wants honest assessments, that’s an honest assessment.

since they traded Kyle Turris, this team has been a complete mess and thats the truth.

Kyle Turris was traded November 5, 2017.

EK apparently freaked out, gave it to Dorion for the trade. Then just days later his entire trade talk happened right after with his Nobtrade list leaking,

It’s the curse of Kyle Turris.

November 5, 2017 is the day this thing fell apart

Nothing will happen.

What should happen:

Scratch Kleven, he has lost all confidence and is making catastrophically bad decisions 2 games in a row.

Start Forsberg. Overplaying Ullmark to find his game has not worked. Sit him for a few games and go back to him in the future.

Staois needs to start making phonecalls about Tkachuk and Norris to see what he can get for them to shake up this core. Ideally you get someone to pair with Stutzle/Batherson so they can be more successful at even strength.

Pinto, Greig, Cousins, Perron have been giant f***ing zeroes. Start a rotating scratch of guys like that. I might be missing a few names but the 4 I have is a good start. Call up people from the AHL to fill the 1 or 2 roster spots you create by scratching those guys. Put Ostapchuk in. Find other guys in the AHL who might be deserving of showcasing their ability and talent and willingness to not be a floating liability.

This sounds about right. We are on season 7 or 8 of "dig a hole early you can't climb out of". I don't have a lot of confidence things would be different next season.

He also probably thinks that way too but thankfully he is nowhere near that important.

Let's stop making excuses for him and admit Brady is one of the most overrated player we have had.

All bluster no substance.
Agreed. I'd love to run some stats about his performance on the first half of the season vs the second half. I'm sure they are almost always better in the second half. He'll have some nice highlite reals when it matters the least.

When it comes to whether the fans would be upset about a Brady trade, psychologically the perspective has now changed where the players are the only ones left to blame because the two big contributing factors to this franchise being perpetually held back are both gone. Those are Melnyk and Dorion, although, Dorion was only in the position he was in as a symptom of Melnyk's ownership.

The only way people will be upset about a Brady trade is if the return is a Joe Thornton type return where we panic and trade Tkachuk for 2-3 good roster players who in a bubble might make us deeper on paper now but are worth nowhere near the value of Tkachuk.
You are right. So much is bad from the previous regime that nothing should be off the table in terms of a retool.

Here's my theory: gen-z kids from North America are less engaged.

Start drafting foreigners who have different cultural standards about money and work.

People are trying to find someone to scapegoat. You're correct. It's unfair to Brady.

But on the other hand, I can certainly tell you that he won't win a cup and certainly won't lead a team to a cup if he doesn't mature his game.

The biggest red flag for me was the reaction to DJ Smith getting fired and replaced with Jacques last year. He didn't lead by example at that time.

I'm not sure where this all goes but until Brady starts leading by example in terms of his defensive game and maturity, we're not going anywhere.
Unfair or not, you've identified the same issues I, and many, see in his game. I do not believe he has the capacity to grow that much this year and combine that with a NMC coming into effect, Staios is in the window to move him.
