Sharks game plan was simple and effective - play us hard down low in our end and in front of our net.

It keeps coming back to our D situation - we can't clear the front, we can't strip pucks and we don't win board battles in our end.
So we spend every shift chasing in our end with nothing left to create anything through the NZ and in their end - we have a gaping hole in our game and it's so easy to expose - even the Sharks figured it out.

It's not systems or lack of offense or a bad game plan. You can't win hockey games if you can't defend and regain possession.
That's how the whole night went until the Sharks decided to defend their lead and backed off on their offense (or time in our zone).
Now, all of a sudden, we have an effective O game and the D play no longer applies or impacts our play - we simply walk out of our zone.
We could have scored 4 or 5 games in the last 3 minutes - Sharks almost blew it by playing a D game against our O game and forgetting about their original game plan.

This is not a systems issue - it's a D issue - and it obvious.

It was really a momentum swing. Jets took momentum in the 2nd. After the PP goal. And Maurice's adjustment.
But the 3rd they were flat, shifts were sloppy, and not hard enough, which may have to do with the fuel the team burns playing mostly 3 lines. And let's face it we can't play 4 lines, 3 injuries at forward and we don't have the depth to cover them.

Our defense wasn't bad. I thought Pionk was the best defenseman on the ice. Yes there is the weakness of defending the front of the net, but really it is Morrissey that struggles as much as anyone in this aspect. He was off tonight. I thought the team was really good at collapsing to negate chances until the 3rd . I was impressed how well the defense stood up on the PK, as a positive. Used to losing the special teams battles this year, we lost this one 5 on 5, and easily could have won. That's kind of how heartbreak works.

Or...just maybe...the coach could hold everyone equally accountable...for once???

I can't believe im gonna say this but the ppl in charge who get to see the ins and outs of the team dont think the coach is a problem and honestly im not sure if the coach plays any real significant role on game days Anyways. The real coaching is done on non game days. This teams problem seems to be between the ears.

Here's a wild idea that just occurred to me - what if they brought in a new voice behind the bench to kind of hit the reset button? Help these guys get over their psychological block or whatever it is. Has any team ever tried something like that? I think it's worth a shot. Maybe not today - let's give Maurice a bit more time. If things aren't way better by...February 2023, maybe it'll be time to start exploring this kind of radical move...

Somewhere nice
Yes, 91 points is the pace the teams fighting for the wild card are on.
Think a couple of these turtle derby teams will suddenly get hot?
Possible of course. Hope not because I can't see the Jets getting above 93 points.

Ok dont give me a bigger hope because i'm gonna cling on it :)

If a multi millionaire needs constant motivation to bust his ass every game then i dont think coaching is the problem. Scheifs issues aren't on Maurice, they are on Scheif... Could Maurice maybe call his lack of d effort out? Sure but i don't know if that accomplishes anything good.

I think leadership are floaters and have no consequences for their lack of d zone effort.. Others see this and think ok they ain't buying in, im not gonna either. Honestly from Maurices presser sounds like they did the opposite of what they supposed to do.

Its time to shake up the room.. 55 or 26 needs to move on.
55 can be saved. 26 is already sliding down a slippery and steep age related slope. Move him please.

You guys know what an echo chamber is? Like it’s impossible to actually to talk hockey right now around here.

Coaching made Kyle Connor miss the open net! :sarcasm:

In all seriousness, whatever you feel about the coaching, the team has a serious lack of ability in the defensive zone. No coach can fix a bad player.

The o-zone stuff is all system, though. 3 shots in the 1st period, none after the 5 minute mark, is awful.

I disagree. Sure, of course, it’s all on Scheif. But in the real world, professionals at every level must be help accountable.
Mo doesn’t, and has never held everyone equally accountable. Horrible coaching. As a senior level manager, I would NEVER lead this team like Mauruce...never...my results would suffer and I would get fired quickly.

in the corporate world results matter. Not sure if Maurice is held to the same standard.

Why discuss when we can just keep making condescending comments on how bad the org is run or for millionth time how bad a coach Maurice is? There’s a reason so many knowledgeable posters are leaving. Some people act like they don’t even want a team.

Not much we can do with Wheeler's NMC. Trade only happens with Wheeler's approval, and I don't see him wanting to be parted from a man he would go through a wall for.

Scheifele on the other hand can and should be moved. For the simple reason that everything about his play, his demeanour, etc screams that he is unhappy here. I would not be surprised if he asked for a trade during or after last season and was told firmly, won't happen. The club should rethink that position. It's time this apple got cored.

We shouldn't need much of a 4th line to beat this team. - You're right in that they didn't get a lot of ice time but they never do (and won't until our injured return).
You can call it momentum - I'd call it sitting on a lead and taking their foot off the gas - they had us bottled up most of the night and it really didn't take much to do that - they rolled over us in our end. Our D is as good as it is - I'm calling them bad but it's not like they are playing under their pay grade. The Sharks plan was pretty clear to me - tenderize a few of our D men and take over the front of the net where there is little resistance.

From my chair, we couldn't get anything going through the NZ due to spending too much time chasing in our end - not because our 4th line didn't see enough ice.
We were OK on the PK but we were not OK 5 on 5 as you pointed out - and 5 on 5 is where your D play along the boards, behind the net and in front, really gets exposed.

I agree that we could have won - we're pretty good in the O zone with a man advantage - or when the opposition decides they have enough to win and stop playing their game.

Kane came to rink slapped Pionk around heard the boo's left happy with the win.
Did we give Kane an ovation too?

Nice guys finish last but I hear Maurice said he wants to live in Winnipeg so good enough for me.

We should be happy we just have a team, right?

I am sure Edibles help...

I have another take...

Many of the posters still posting now want the Jets to win....

Can't depend on the Jets winning...

They can depend on each other...

Depend on making each other to have fun like friends together at the bar...

Making jokes...

Cliff Claven'ing...

Complaining... venting... face palming...

And when the Jets are playing like we would wish...

More happy...

My take on most of what goes on here is pure survival instinct for those that just want to feel good... it's a bar like atmosphere...

Here for a good time...

If you depend on the analytics... it's depressing...

No one still here is talking about the neo stats here... unless they are joking...
