Was at the game. Disgusting late chop by Goodrow. Laine took exception (as he should have) and then everyone got separated.
I completely agree with your comments. Kane is more trouble than his worth. EK65 was worth it, I think, but he's out for the year now too, breaking his thumb in this game. Now the sharks are without Hertl, Couture, Ek65 (all 3 out for the season), Pavelski (gone forever) and now Kane (3 game suspension), and - they are a shadow of their former selves.
Just as a point of fact though, Pionk's shot came exactly at 0.0 seconds, and was just outside of the blueline - it would have been offsides. Clearest frame I can get is actually at 0.1 seconds, but you can still see where the puck would have been .1 seconds later. (see screengrab)
Goodrow probably just though it was unnecessary as it wouldnt have counted, but Pionk was absolutely doing the right thing to try and win.
I couldnt see the chop itself in the feed, because it was right at the edge of the feed. Pionk did skate for 2-3 meters right after Goodrow went by, and then just simply put his hands on his knees and kept skating, like he was exhausted and disappointed- so whatever Goodrow did, it was more visual than painful it seems. Pionk didn;t seem to even notice it as much as everyone else who saw it.
Regardless, it was a lame act by Goodrow and I hope he gets disciplined. Pionk was just doing everything he could to win. I am disappointed in Goodrow.
