So.. Edmonton has to be the favorites coming out of the west, right?

No despite all their players being better than everyone else, including the 3 best Centres to ever play the game, they somehow have not yet won the Cup.

This is rich coming from a Leafs fan. :help:  No Oilers fan claims Nuge is better than any 1C in the league. McDavid is the best player in the game, and in the last two years, yeah Drai has been up there with Mackinnon as the second best C in the league. (I think Mack is 2, and Drai is 3)

He was pretty much the only Flame that showed up haha.

Yeah Smith was one of the few high points in that series for Calgary.

He had a shutout in Game 1, made 36 saves in an OT loss in Game 2, made 50 saves - in regulation - in Game 3 when Calgary as a team just rolled over, then kicked out 49 shots in an OT loss in Game 4.

Homerism aside, I'm not even entirely convinced the Oilers can beat my Blackhawks in a best of 5. If I had to put money down i'd say the Hawks lose but it's not a guarantee by any means. In terms of the rest of the West...if McDavid and/or Draisaitl go cold in a series who is the depth that's going to pick up the slack? What players are they going to throw out there to shut down other team's best lines? Is Koskinen going to step up or will they have to cross their fingers that 38 year old Mike Smith doesn't get lit up again like he did just one year ago in Calgary?

Edmonton isn't a complete team yet. They need a much better bottom 6, they need way more talent on defense.

Aside from your lack of knowledge on Edmonton's greatly improved depth this year with the additions of Yamamoto, Athanasiou, Ennis, Archibald and Sheahan, and their underrated D...

I'm so sick of this crap of 'what if McDavid and Draisaitl don't show up.' They don't win. Period. Name any team that will win a series if their best 2 players don't show up. How does Chicago do if Kane and Toews are nowhere to be seen? How does Pittsburgh do if Crosby and Malkin choke. How is this a point you're trying to make over who wins the series.

Edmonton is a better team than Chicago. Their star players are currently better than Chicago's star players. Anything can happen in a series, but Edmonton is the favourite to win.

He was by far their best player  he was the only reason most games weren’t a blowout in Colorado’s favour

17 goals against in 5 games??? I swear I’m really not just stat-watching here. I saw the games. The Flames looked awful but so did Smith.

Depth wins championships and the Oilers don’t have it. Tyler freaking Ennis and a rookie Yamamoto aren’t going to cut it. Neither is that “underrated D” giving up 3+ goals a game

I hope Oilers lose the play-ins... win the draft lottery, then draft Lafresniere to ride shotgun with McDavid...

But then halfway through the playoffs, due to massive changes in public safety, the league shuts down again, and nobody is awarded the cup.

So Oilers win Lafreniere, no cup is awarded, and everyone complains about how unfair life is forever.

:D

Oh and Taylor Hall comes back in the 1-week offseason.
And we trade our horrible contracts away for all of your first round draft picks.

And we start another dynasty.

He was the only reason I was slightly concerned the Flames could beat the Avs

And 17 goals in 5 game’s isn’t even that bad. A little over 3 per game, Avs easily could’ve/should’ve had way more than that

Chicago is a vet team with nothing to lose, better goaltending and beat the Oilers in the season series this year. Add to the fact that defensively the Oilers have nothing to even slow down Kane while the Blackhawks at least have Toews. That and Edmonton's bottom 6 is horribly offensively so that doesn't help. Also lack of fans and emotions will completely neuter guys like Kassian.

Chicago imo are huge favorites in the series

Offensively Edmonton has 2 lines. Toews imo can handle McDavid. That leaves Kane's line vs Draisaitls line which I think will go even. That leaves the bottom 6. Edmonton a bottom 6 is terrible offensively so Chicago has the advantage there. Both teams have below average defense. So unless Chicago's goaltending shits the bed or Edmonton's stands on its head I think Chicago wins the series.

Of those 17 goals, most were either on the PP, Short Handed, or with the Avs' goalie pulled and Mike Smith had been left high and dry.
