So.. Edmonton has to be the favorites coming out of the west, right?

Let’s not drag the rest of the Edmonton fan base into the thoughts of one poster who, clearly, isn’t working with a full set.
I liked your post for its delusional value.

If you think the Oilers are better positioned for a Stanley Cup run, regardless of how they set the bracket up, you know nothing about hockey, defense - Team and individual play or team Positional depth, 3 things that the Blues far and away outstrip the Oilers at.

I don't think the majority of Oiler fans ever thought they were the favorites in the West this year. Colorado and Vegas are still the teams to beat IMHO. The Oilers have made major strides this year for sure and the future is bright. Just don't put the cart before the horse.

Edmonton is obviously the best team in Canada, but hardly favourites in the West at the moment, once the playoffs start you never know.

How do you fluke winning a Stanley Cup? Were you expecting them to have to play a game against each team that didn't make the playoffs too? What a dumb take.

This was my favorite thread of the year by far. The OP and this guy both crushed it. Made me laugh multiple times and feel better about my life, intelligence level, etc.

That same weak division shat on the eastern divisions.
i wouldn't consider a record 115-94-27 (or 115-121 if you combine the regulation losses and overtime losses, which gives you a losing record) to be one division shitting on another, but to each their own i guess

Please elaborate and tell us what makes it a fluke. I'm genuinely curious.

Most of his problems seemed to revolve around how Jordan Binnington kept making saves that tntkid didn't think he should have stopped. That and his constant lamentations complaining about how Hellebyuk wasn't prime Hasek.

Edmonton outside of the first ten games has a worse record than all Canadian teams but Montreal and Ottawa. And yes it is important to look at recent play.

Even if you include all games, Edmonton barely has more points than the lump of Canadian teams and should clearly be included in that group.

I don't think you know what the word "obviously" means.

lol...convenient to take out the first 10 games to fit a narrative

if we are talking about "recent play", Oilers had a better 2020 than every Canadian team

I don't hate the Blues but they did fluke their way to a Cup and barely got by Winnipeg ,Dallas and Boston.

Good luck doing that twice.

That’s why they’re #1 in the west and #2 in the Nhl while playing the entire year without their best goal scorer? Yeah, they’re flukes.

I don't know about "favorites", but they should be a decent team.

Pro sports isn't that complicated, usually the teams with a couple of the highest end players are good.

Chiarelli was just an idiot that completely gutted all roster depth, but Holland has rebuilt it reasonably well and the Oilers secondary drafting (as in picks past just top 10 selections) is finally hitting pay dirt with Yamamoto and Bear being two large additions.

Last year outside of McDavid/Draisaitl/RNH, the Oilers had two other forwards score double digit goals -- Chiasson and Kassian and that's it.

This years Oilers have that increased that to *eight* players who can score in that range -- Yamamoto, Neal, Ennis, Athansiou, Archibald, Sheahan, Kassian, and Chiasson.

That's a significant change from the season prior.

Then you factor in Draisiatl taking another large step in his development.

Edmonton probably has a good shot to win a round, should the playoffs actually happen and they don't get Vegas in the 1st.

But the Pacific is an incredibly weak division and they're a big part of that. The idea that they're one of the top teams in their division should tell you all you need to know about it. I can't see McDavid and Draisaitl carrying them to a win over Vegas, as good as McDavid/Draisaitl are. The depth just isn't there and their goaltending is precarious at best.

And that's just talking about the Pacific! There's easily 3 teams in the Central better than them. I can't see them being better than St. Louis, Colorado, Dallas. They're probably on par with the Wild (although their goaltending has been much better than Minnesota's this year).

But yeah Edmonton is a team that can probably win a round but likely couldn't do much more. They're miles away from being the best team in the West.
