I could see him with a 50 point season this year. Don't think he's going to become a consistent point a game forward but I do think you put him with good players he's going to be a 60 point guy anyway. He's second on the team in hits behind Girardi--and he didn't play the first 7 games. If he had he might be first. Girardi doesn't have a big lead. You hit a lot--you take penalties--there's the trade off that keeps opponents on their toes knowing they have a young power forward who can really skate always bearing down on them. There's things he could be doing better and more consistently but this has been an eye opening season not just for us but I think for him too. Again his all around game has improved tremendously from last year to this. He's not picking up the wrong guy anymore. I don't think the Rangers are ready to put him on the pk just yet but he's been pretty responsible defensively. + 15 is way ahead of anyone else on the team.

Love the people who said he had a low hockey IQ

yeah, OK

Evaluating his overall game last year his hockey IQ needed improvement and it has improved. He is slowing down his thought process and being intuitive. I love how he comes down the wing recently and instead of blasting a shot he has added the deke move in front of the net. What a pleasure that we have a player like Chris

as stated in another thread.

I completely overlook each and every dumb aggressive penalty he takes.

I will not forgive the dumb lazy penalties.

a little to exuberant last night? Yeah. So what. He was looking to get in the play and prevent something from developing.

100% forgiven.

all penalties are not created equal...too many men on the ice, hooks, trips, slashing the goalie...those are DUMB penalties.

i can live with stuff like what he did to Tyutin. Hit a guy hard and leave him leveled. that happens with power forwards. you dont need to be a power forward to hook and trip someone, you just need to be dumb/lazy/noobish

im as big a Kreider fan as you'll see, and you'll note im not blaming him for this loss...but i agree with whoever it was that says some people find it impossible to critique a player.

Kreider has been taking A LOT of really really stupid penalties, and he needs to nip that in the bud right now.

I think the Rangers played about 10 minutes of hockey last night.
Islanders out played them. Its that simple. Kreider didn't lose the game for them. He's probably the best young forward they've drafted in forever and isn't going anywhere. The dumb penalties will go away with experience. How old is Krieder?
Everyone needs to relax. I'd be more concerned with what players are surrounding and complimenting players like Krieder, McD and Stepan.

I dont buy that. pretty mch everyone has said that he has taken some undisciplined penalties. However he is still a rookie and those will decrease with time. But to be honest he does much more positives that even when he does take bad penalties it doesnt come close to outweight the good he has done

I blame the too many men penalty last night on Richards. Richards was too slow getting to the bench, and Kreider was too anxious to get into the play.

You are partially correct. Hagelin would be the man Kreider replaces, but Stepan jumped on too, just not into the play.

As per Carp's review...

4) Still, the Rangers could have won it until that mindless seven-skaters on the ice penalty on Kreider and Stepan. And since Alain Vigneault put the blame on the guys coming off the ice, I went back and took a couple more looks. The two guys who jumped on early were Chris Kreider and Derek Stepan, they were coming on for Brad Richards and Carl Hagelin. Ryan Callahan never got off, and Rick Nash never came on. So … since it was off an icing and 62-19-24 were stuck on the ice for a defensive-zone faceoff and should have immediately changed, going up ice and into the offensive zone instead of changing was mistake No. 1. Then, being out of gas and slow to the bench was mistake No. 2. That’s how I saw it.

it was a terrible effort by the players coming off the ice. isles had a 3 on 2 and the dicks on the ice were gliding the whole way too the bench

He's playing great. He seems to fit with a lot of different players on his line.

Only issue is his penalties. It's ridiculous. He needs to stop taking so many stupid penalties.

He does take alot of penalties but around the same as guys that play big upfront - Backes, Malkin, Perry, Marchand, Dubinsky, E. Kane, etc.

Look at what John LeClair became when he figured out how to use his body and was paired with a #1 Center. Kreider is pretty much the exact same size as JL.

Kreider is faster and more skilled...so.......

Alright, lets slow down just a bit. We all love Kreider, but hes got a long way to go before he can even touch the player LeClair was.

If he stays with Nash he will be getting 50 + points naturally just by being on his line. Plus if Stepan comes back to form from last year 65+ points is a possibility every year. That line is just going to get better :D

It's not that he just takes penalties. But he takes stupid penalties. Very stupid penalties.

He's come a long way. And still could get better. Can we see more before we label him a "star"?

If you stick around longer, and maybe take on some sort of position that involves you keeping an eye on things and reading lots of posts, you'll learn that the answer to your question is a resounding "no".

:sarcasm:

Of course, but I'm drawing comparisons to their game/size. It is entirely possible he reaches that kind of potential.

Yeah.

I mean I really don't care at this point. He's 21/22.

You could really ***** about this in two years if you like.

He does take a lot of penalties. Some are really bad but a ton of them are the refs giving him the Avery treatment.

Kreider seems to have really awesome vision. He has been making a lot of great passes and a lot of his assists are primary assists.

I have lauded most aspects of his game, not so much this, holding back to see.
Glad others are calling it also for an "A" game.

this means, yes, he should finish turning into another Pavel Bure first.
I'd like to see someone else pick up some of it for the deflections, with CK then turned loose to more readily use that blur of a shot.

But a la Patrick Sharp, I'd like at some point, DOWN THE ROAD, to check out how he'd do at C.

I am happy enough to wait for that experiment, and it's nice enough to see he has the vision and passing skill for (at least considering) it (as it was a position he played in college).

I would not say that.

I would say that LeClair's game was the deflections, basically.
Both do that well, edge LeClair on experience --- it was his bread and butter.

But as to an overall player, Kreider, like a freightrain, already humiliates LeClair in other aspects of the game. For a comparable, consider how he went thru Chara like a hot knife through butter.

Look at how much Kreider has learned already about playing in the NHL. Last season seems like an eon ago.
A player who plays with an edge gets a gold star from me, and one with his talent and presence who plays with an edge makes me giddy.

The thing Kreider does that nobody else on our team does much is he makes good HARD passes that are accurate. He doesn't just float them in there. He zips them in right on target without giving the defender much time to make a play. An excellent example is the Nash goal he set up the other day winning the puck battle behind the net turning around and firing it to Nash streaking in.

I have to admit, I was a doubter of Krieder. Looked too one dominotional.. Last year I worried if hell ever come close to his potential. Now.. He's blossomed into a star. I can't think last time we had a rookie play at this level.. Maybe 25-35 could happen by the end of the year. This kid looks like a beast. Rick Nash and Kreider on the same line is just dirty.

What do you think is his potential?
I say consistently putting up 30-40-70 every year. I'll be happy with that

I liked the pic since day 1 never had any doubts this kid would be a stud... I also was a big fan of DZ,who I wound up becoming dissapointed with..

I always had a comparison of kreider to Corey perry !sure it's a long shot!but maybe a poor mans version??I see Kreider being a consistant 60-65 point player, with maybe a few 70 pt seasons
