There's a difference between Kreider "playing with an edge" and just taking sloppy penalties.

I'm not going to solely blame the too-many-men call on him, but he's taken a number of stick-related penalties, and a bunch in the offensive zone. If he can shore that up a bit, he'll be in really good shape.

Do you want him to be aggressive or not? If you play on the edge, you are going to use your stick and take penalties. Kreider shouldn't be concerned about winning the Lady Byng. He is 6-3 230. If he slashes the goalie trying to knock the puck out of his glove or trips the opposing player, that is part of the game.

I read an article recently about how his size and speed open things up for Nash. Plus his forecheck causes turnovers that don't always ended up in assists. Basically, even if he's a 55 point player his impact will be of a higher producing player. Wish he would cut it out with the penalties.
Nash even said recently that Kreider has had a big impact on his recent surge. Because of kreider's speed, forecheck, and passing nash is able to get a lot of good shot oppurtunities

id rather him use the body and stick instead of skating away from contact... i wish he would throw his body a bit more.... make the other team pay when they retaliate back..

Plus he is only a rookie so he will learn to take less penalties. However Kreider is a physical player so penalties are gonna be apart of that anyway

Even when Kreider isn't putting points on the board, his speed creates turnovers. It opens up the ice for Stepan and Nash. Erik Karlsson sees Kreider bearing down on him and turns the puck over to Stepan. 13 goals and 17 assists in 45 games with 60 PIM. Pro-rated 22-28-50 and 100 PIM in 75 games.

The issue is that the majority of his penalties aren't the result of "aggressive play."

I don't care about that major he got vs CBJ (aside from the fact that was a terrible call), those are the kind of penalties I can live with from him. If he's going to take roughing calls becasuse he's scrapping with guys post-whistle, so be it. It's sloppy stick work and lazy play that bothers me.

He has 19 minors thus far this year. 4 have been for high sticking and 4 have been for interference. 1 rough and 1 slash.

I would be a bit suprised if it was more.

I think he is coming along really well. I was a bit afraid that he would fly in a little lower, more like in the 20+20 mold (which really is not bad at all when you look at "avg" numbers for players that aren't 1st lineers, 40 pts is what the "avg" 2nd lineer puts up). I do think 70 pts is high. I would bet at that being more of career high. The last full year, only 20 forwards scored 70 pts or more. Only 2 forwards on avg per team scored more than 60 pts. Split the avg from when he is like 23-28, I think 55 pts on avg is good.

No need to point out that stats is just stats though, any number is easily at least +/- 10 pts depending on you play on a real highflying team or a low scoring team.

Well said. And it is tricky to accurately gauge where he will eventually fall into. He's not 100% flash and score. He's gritty, speedy, and strong as a bull. He could easily be a perennial 50pt player for us who takes the body when he can, but reaching 70 points in a system now where we are capable of 30+ shots a game isn't a stretch either.

It's an optimistic prediction, yes, but at the same time he really is one of the best producers on our team right now, not to mention everything else he brings to the table, so it's almost impossible to see how far he can actually take himself. I really think once this team seriously starts to get going he can be a 30 goal guy, and 30-40 assists wouldn't be surprising either.

A big reason why i dont get on him too much for penalties is because the kid does so much out there. he scores,he's a playmaker, he's physical, and his defense has really improved. the Penlaties will decrease with more experience but the kid hanst even reached his ultimate potential yet which make sit fun the enxt few years

Is he by far the most aggressive player on the team? Because his penalty differential is by far the worst. Are all the people who have positive penalty differentials not trying?

For some reason, people have difficulty saying anything negative about a player the like. If Kreider murdered someone, it would obviously be for the greater good.

Absolutely right. He takes dumb penalties because he gets overexcited. He is still a rookie. He literally does everything well though, it's exciting to see a home grown player with this much skill and potential who is actually panning out the way we had hoped.

To think he's only going to get stronger, faster, (and possibly bigger) is very very exciting. Either way, he's a huge part of this team for years to come.

I have to admit, I was a doubter of Krieder. Looked too one dominotional.. Last year I worried if hell ever come close to his potential. Now.. He's blossomed into a star. I can't think last time we had a rookie play at this level.. Maybe 25-35 could happen by the end of the year. This kid looks like a beast. Rick Nash and Kreider on the same line is just dirty.

What do you think is his potential?
I say consistently putting up 30-40-70 every year. I'll be happy with that

This is why you need to give players some time to develop. I was on the fence with him too at one point. But the one thing I knew is how intelligent he is, and that he has a very strong work ethic. When you combine that with his size and skill, its almost a foregone conclusion that he would get to this level.

Now its just a matter of him sustaining it and i think he will get even better. Hes understanding what he needs to do in this league to succeed.

40% serious?

He takes too many minor penalties, but with the way he's turned his game around as a whole product it isn't the most problematic thing. If this is the way he knows how to play then he's better here than not here.

Zucc plays with an edge and has less penalties, but it's been shown that refs tend to penalize the big guy in a sparring match more frequently.

Zucc also has much more experience than kreider and even though they both play with an edge they play different games. I dont blame the loss on kreider last night because teh defense had its worst night in a long time and other than nash and kreider nobody really did anything

surprising Zucc was not noticeable at all and Pouliot was back to his lazy play.. McDonagh did not have a great game and Girardi was average at best. Stralman was their best dman. Staal had his moments but looked rusty..

Agreed. I like Zucc but eventually eh was gonna come back down to earth

20+ goals and 20+ assists.

Quick and somewhat physical 45-50 pt forward.

Best year will be 30/30 but average will be closer to 50pts

Kreider takes too many DUMB penalties..thats what bugs me. Most of his penalties are avoidable and OBVIOUS...

it's pretty much my only complaint about him and is a very correctable thing. I know he needs to play with an edge to be effective but come on kid, wake up!

Those are nice numbers for a rookie...He is a manchild when he figures it all out he will be an easy 30-35-65 point player with speed, size and brute strength...We will drool at his play as he evolves

Look at what John LeClair became when he figured out how to use his body and was paired with a #1 Center. Kreider is pretty much the exact same size as JL.

Kreider is faster and more skilled...so.......

I blame the too many men penalty last night on Richards. Richards was too slow getting to the bench, and Kreider was too anxious to get into the play.

22 year old power forward takes penalties? nah

If the only part of his game that needs adjusting is less penalties, then...well, awesome. He'll learn. Chill.
