GDT: Slovakia - USA

Seems like the US is a bit of a mentally weak team, unable to face any adversity with the way theyve responded to the outcome of this game.

im ok with them doing everything to protect these young players, and i think that is a unnecessary hit......i dont know if its "late" (dont know what actual rule is) and i dont think it was a boarding......again im ok with protecting players and im not justifying that hit, but would love to know what lines were crossed for a 5 + game.

Hence, the quotations. What I meant was that it wasn't boarding (it was a side hit), I don't agree with that. Anyways, this is IIHF and I'm almost always wrong with my assessment.

Rulebook does not state that boarding can only be done from behind. By the rulebook it was a clear reckless and avoidable boarding where a major penalty at ref's discretion is warranted.

Slovakia had of made them pay there boy oh boy was the U.S. in trouble.

They of course still are but they've got the horses to roar back. Slovakia better stay aggressive.

Migod, Starman is insufferable on the US feed. Seems to think that his job is to talk over the action, and talk about everything but what is actually happening on the ice. The PbP guy lets him do it- why not try calling the game, or is it to much work indentifying players and describing the play as it happens?

They aren't at the rink so they're just chatting over a game. It's poor quality.

thanks for that clarity, i always thought boarding was a check from behind into the boards, but makes sense to include a violent check into the boards, and would agree under that

"A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any Player who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the Boards violently or dangerously."

The player is in a vulnerable position and the hit didn't need to be thrown. He initiated the hit after the puck was released, so it's textbook late - especially by the IIHF's most recent standards - and it resulted in the Slovak going heavily (violently, dangerously) into the boards. I don't have a problem with that being a major.

Starman is one of the most insufferable announcers in hockey.

This Connors guy is is a psychopath or what? You are down 2-4, have been playing bad the entire period, desperately need to do something to ignite a new spark in the team. Well, a dirty boarding foul on a player without the puck definitely isn't the right way to achieve that. I know he's a junior player but this was plain stupidity which may well make it game over for the US.

A surprising period overall, Slovakia came back big, while the US left everything good from the first period behind in the locker room. Didn't expect that at all.

Dvorsky is a completely different player from the last world juniors. Looks bigger and stronger. Reminds me of a Krejci. He has a bit of an edge to him.

What's impressed me most is the attention to detail and IQ on the defensive side

He has a well rounded game and like we've seen can be a quick strike offensive weapon

Fun prospect

Thanks for that. Good info.

Feel like if you aren't going to send a crew to call the games live why not just pick up the TSN feed and everyone can complain about Button together.

Same. I hate when games are being called remotely - the last US game they were talking about a 2-on-1 that was actually a 2-on-2 because the second defenseman was just out of frame. It's silly that they don't just pick up the TSN feed and splice in their own USA hockey ads and intermission report.

Hit was late and definitely unnecessary. Not sure it's a major but it's absolutely a penalty and it was predatory so there's room to call it as such
