It is good for this team in the long run to get knocked down a peg. I think going in to this season and coming off the deep playoff run the Jets were kind of drinking their own kool aid. The Avs were playing for their playoff position tonight and the Jets were phoning it in. Have to realize that nothing in the NHL is guaranteed.

On the plus side, I like Niku. He's good at making plays with the puck. A mini Byfuglien in the offensive zone.

Drinking the kool aid for 6 months isnt something you snap out of in time for the playoffs it's something you need to go to hockey AA for in the off season.

As a Tampa Bay Lightning fan, nothing disappoints me more than the see your team doing what your guys are doing now. That game we had a month or two ago was the best game that I've seen in a long time. And I was hoping to see you guys in the finals.

Our coach finally got us, it may have taken a while but he has finally found the line combo to tank us. Its impressive really.

Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Hockey can be a weird sport when things aren’t going your way. Right now there is something going on with the team. No proper defensive system, no urgency in the forecheck, being beaten to the puck. Team needs to get back to the basics, different line combinations , maybe even a trade to shake things up. Hockey is very much a confidence sport and right now we seem to be lacking that. Good thing is this can be corrected. This team has too much talent but the coaching staff and players need to figure it out.
Need an Uber driver to record their conversations!

my takeaway:
Nathan Mackinnon is one hell of a good player that still hasn't reached his full potential.

my other takeaway: will a trade snap the Jets out of it or should the Jets re-evaluate why they're in this funk and just be passengers. i assume this will make the jets more prone to making a (silly) trade

I too think they'll look at this clusterf*** of a team and decide to mask the underlying issues by acquiring a big name for two months.

It might do something good. I don't think it will amount to much, though. Too many parts of this team are not performing up to the standard.

Went to bed after the 2nd, I feel as though I made the right call.

This team is less fun to watch right now than during the bad years.

It doesn't take much to change the momentum. They are flat uninspired not motivated unsure without confidence.....just like St Louis 2 months ago.
A new coach....a 52 save performance.....win a fight ....come from a long way back. This team has an abundance of skill size speed. Back to forecheck hard and support your own zone.
Do they miss Ehlers voice and personality or do you think PMo should have made examples of his best players not working hard enough???

and that's the ol' million dollar question.

which parts are not performing and why? how does one make the players accountable? a late-season firing rarely solves any problems. do you let them figure it out on their own?

How many different ways of saying 'f***ing break up Scheifele and Wheeler' can we come up with?

Leadership is showing your people how to do it. Lead by example, as they say. If your leaders get away with whatever, it might just trickle down the lineup. Maurice and whoever the leaders in the room are need to be accountable, and then they'll see how the others respond. If Maurice is giving his leaders too much power, he needs to take it back or resign.

What is obvious is that we need to stop wasting potential. Give Perreault minutes. Give Niku minutes. Give Petan a shot. Test some new things and see what happens. Not doing that is the equivalent of being content with the status quo, which has been a catastrophe. I think it comes down to clashing egos; are the leaders willing to admit that they have performed like shit?

I hope they come back with those same lines Friday night.

18-55-28
85-18-26
29-9-13
48-17-82

Wouldn't mind seeing another game from them.

The tempo of the Vegas game is going to be insane. Hope we lose a tight one so the players don't think they can just turn it on and win at will.

There’s some absolute gold in those post game comments.

Wheeler: “We gave up”. At least he’s honest. Not very bright, mind you.

Maurice: “We’ll fix it tomorrow”. Just add it to the honey-do list, hey PoMo? Not like it hasn’t needed fixing for close to a month.

Yup. Most of the underlying issues have been visible for a while. They were either not recognized or ignored by the coaching staff.

not disagreeing with you. thought Wheeler admitted to not playing well.

not convinced that splitting up the 1st line is THE answer, but the stubbornness to not try that (among other things) does irk me. hell, every other hot-line team (other than Boston) has split guys up.

Have we had one bag skate this year?
and what does the bag skate accomplish?
part of the problem is the appearance of wary legs. so you bag skate guys as a punishment and that does what? freshens their legs for the next game?
no thanks.
better things to do than that. playing time's the answer. maybe we saw it with Appleton on the PK? dunno.
