Confirmed with Link: Slafkovsky, Guhle, Harris and Xhekaj made the team!!

not a fan of rushing these kids to what could be a real shit show of a season. We'll see what happens when all is said and done but so far not a fan at all.
Who starts the season has nothing to do with who will e on the roster at even the 10 game mark. Hopefully St Louis will decide they aren't ready, and the player will also ralize it, and they will be sent to the AHL.

In the case of Slafkovski and Xhekaj I agree but not for Ghule, who would probably make it for the other 31 teams as well.

Harris is more complicated, he didn't look out of place last year for 10 games, I guess playing 20 min in the AHL could be beneficial but at the same time I don't know how they planned to use him in the NHL.

Will see I guess.

He may just be here for a few days until Matheson is ready.

and that is a terrible development plan, you don't put kids directly from the OHL or WHL or from Liiga at 17, into the NHL only to decide they aren't ready. You need to figure that out before hand and have a proper plan in place. but that's why I said, We'll see what happens when all is said and done.

Would you look at that... Habs are going with 6D.

Xhekaj has been sent down to Laval, but that is for cap savings. He will be called back up in time for Wednesday's season opener. But Matheson won't be ready. So Habs will go with 6D. And when Matheson returns, I expect one of Xhekaj or Harris will be sent down. They will either stay at 6D or call up someone like Schueneman or maybe Leskinen, two guys they can live with as being scratched or playing a minimal role.

Not sure why folks are upset that these rookies are starting in the NHL. We have some injuries and Hughes has been on record several times saying that these situations will be constantly evaluated and monitored, and that they'll do what's best for each individual's development.

Matheson has not been ruled out yet so we will have to wait until Wednesday for more clarity on the situation.

Saying that Xhakej would surprise many here and might even start the year in MTL since the draft.

So happy for the kid, he didn't disappoint one bit. Still some adjustment for sure but he can only get better and actually develop in the NHL since his style isn't going to be bullied to the ground unlike a smallish player who could be scared of the hard hits. He'll keep his focus.

Now that it's official, here comes the ; told you so.

Slafkovsky;
Until Armia is back it's a good chance for him to show that he belongs, if he's really out of it, Pezz will take some games. Taking into consideration that no one else goes out.

Guhle;
Playing top4 right off the bat and don't expect him to play less once Eddy is back, he'll eventually be the #3 ahead of Savard before the 20th game.

Harris;
Harris would be my odd man out once Eddy is back. Not because he's worst than Wideman, Xhakej or Kovacevic, but simply because his style require more TOI to develop. You want this kid to be able to eat a lot of minutes and eventually to play PP. He won't with MTL, he's not there yet and he's more prone to mistake and 1v1 lost battle until he gain more experience and reps. Instead of playing 3rd pair with 14min of ice time, he's better off playing 24-25 with Laval, top Pair with Barron and 1st wave PP.

They have a 23 man roster. They are developing assets for sale and for retention and team performance. You can keep telling everyone they will retain 6 D but suspect few will listen or believe. Habs will run a minimum of 7 D to support organizational goals. Reminds me of another saying “ even a broken clock is right twice a day ”

He might has earn a spot especially with the injuries but it isn't just about keeping the best player because regarless who we keep as #6 it shouldn't really have any impact, it should be about doing what is best for Xhekaj and his long term futur... I don't think playing 3rd pairing on a tire fire Defense where every mistake will result in a goal and replayed on loop everywhere is good and worst he will also be expected and relied upon to drop the glove because we don't realy has anyone else...

Some of these move might also be to maximize our cap situation and have nothing to do with hockey...
Agreed. We'll ruin him into becoming an O'Byrne 2.0. 😉

Xhekaj - isnt he the first player in NHL history, with name beginning with X? Or were there others?

I believe you are correct.....I think his brother was just passed over in the draft as well, maybe another later blooming X-man.

I could see them going back and forth. Play a few NHL games, get a list of things to work on, go to the AHL and work on them 20 minutes a game. Houle may not be able to get his winning environment immediately if they are serious about development but by midseason or so they should be able to focus more on the games.

I think because Matheson isn't 100% sure he'll play and Edmundson injured, it opened spots to have 3 rookies on D.

I expect one of them to be sent down if Matheson returns. And if Eddy doesn't miss too much time, then I expect another one to be sent down.

Apparently, Hughes and MSL called Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj & Slaf to announce they made the team, but they told them that it will be fluid and could spend time in Laval this year.

This is in line with what he told Pierre LeBrun in an Athletic article.

It's why I don't have any panic right now, there's some injuries they need to navigate through early on and they seem to be open to making changes based on performance.

They are going to do what's right for their development so we will see if their actions correlate with that.

I can see based on the pre-season that the young players on the team have deserved a continued look while Matheson, Edmundson and Armia rehab from their injuiries.

I'd send down Xhekaj, Harris and Slafkovsky in order of those listed above. Unless their play in the first few games shows a continued progression from pre-season (Slafkovsky namely).

Cool that Guhle, Xhekaj and Slafkovsky hung other together in August-September and find out together they make the team. Only Robin is missing. It’s good for team-building.
Funnily enough, Mesar was the best one in camp.

You keep repeating this but it's just not true.
Except it is to me. Funny how people have different opinions, eh? Well, Guhle was as good in reality.

He was never going to make the team though. Just like it Hutson came to camp and was the best D.
