From what I understand a big problem in Boston right now is a dearth of school bus drivers and that's why they cancelled. They didn't want to end up with a bunch of kids suddenly stuck outside in zero degree weather.
This right here is the issue in Boston.

Between the drivers and busses not starting, plus the old buildings that have issues with heating systems, they did the right thing.

We haven't had a snow day yet so let them have the day.

The suburbs are a hell of a lot smaller than Boston and have money to ensure kids are able to get to school via busses and that they have updated school buildings.

They've been doing this for years, this isn't a new thing. I'm 36 and remember having school cancelled because it was sub zero in the morning.

Plus, it's not like it's cancelled anymore, it's a "remote learning environment".
Yep. 38, and definitely had school cancelled for cold, and other non snow weather events. Shit happens. If it's not a healthy learning environment or it becomes dangerous to get not just the bus students, but the walking students to/from school, you gotta call it off.

Pleasantly warm, AZ
If it helps, we had an unseasonably cool January. A couple of times below freezing overnight (31 is below freezing, right?), and a bunch of days we didn't even make it out of the 40s. :cold:

Babysitting Ellie today. Brought out the body pillow. Muffin always, ALWAYS sleeps next to the babies. Such a protector. Even in her old bitty era.

Fingers crossed this nap goes on for a bit. I need a little break! Haha

Agreed.

Couple kids lose fingers to frostbite it's the cost of growing up. kids used to work in coal mines and do dangerous factory work back in the day. Kids these days have it easy.

If it gets them to stop wearing shorts, t shirts and sandals to school in February, I'm all for it. We're long overdue for a culling of the herd.

Wear appropriate clothing and all will be well.

I feel very old, we never had snow days. I even lived in Thompson MB and never had a cancellation That I can recall. It was about a two mile walk.

I went to school when girls weren't allowed to wear pants so I would wear them under my dress and take them off when I got there....lol Hard to believe I went along with that now. I didn't become a hard ass until I was older. My first secretarial job I refused to get coffee for anyone, it made quite a stir.

We had to go to a funeral today, they decided to skip the graveside ceremony because of the cold. There were military honors on the steps of the church after mass so we had to deal with some outside but it was 10 mins.

After the lunch I dove under a blanket and put the fireplace on. Haven’t left haha.

Have bacon wrapped chicken in the oven right now. Season chicken tenderloins with olive oil, salt and pepper, chili powder, garlic and onion powder, chili flakes…wrap in bacon and sprinkle brown sugar on top.

Lost power about 15-20 minutes ago. Not ideal.

Houses behind and in front of me have power. Seems to be my street is the only one to have lost power. Very odd.

Estimated time for the power to go back on according to them is 9:30. But I'm hoping it's faster than that.

A friends dad just posted the same on Facebook. Hope it comes back for you soon!

54, and I remember two or three times they cancelled school due to cold, all in the last 30 years. However, you have to protect the walkers and if the buses will not start, they will not start. I had the lights flicker here a couple times but no reverse rolling black out.
