McKenzie hasn't released his last list yet, has he? Do we know approximately when to expect it to get released? Since the draft is wide open after #1, any chance the list might take longer to prepare?
It's typically released the week of the draft

Won't be any different this year

No you're right, my wife's boyfriend told me Demidov is too risky, so what do I know? I'm not cool, and don't own a motorcycle, so I should probably just listen to him.

Just finished watching a few new YT Demidov highlights compilations on YT and that kid sure has some insane dangling and stickhandling. Granted that's at Russian junior level and some of those plays would be risky at the NHL level but if we want a "wooooaaa" pure talent type of player and he falls to 5th he's the guy for sure

Those hands are slick slick slick

One concern that I have been reading is his average skating.

I've already voted for Lindstrom but, watching the playoffs, it's even clearer to me. Catton is a great talent but I see we need more than that if we want to ever make some noise in the playoffs.

His technique is certainly uncommon but it seems to serve him well for the style he plays. The big question is : How will it translate to the NHL ? He won't always be able to dipsy dangle through a whole team in the NHL like he does in junior so he certainly gonna need to adjust some parts of his game if he doesn't want to become a turnover machine or a victim of an open ice hit.

I think Lindstrom and Iginla are "safer" picks in the sense that they play a more North American game but that Demidov has the highest offensive upside of all 2024 draftees except for maybe Celebrini.

In any case i'd be happy with either Lindstrom or Demidov followed by one of the big 3 D at 5th. I've cooled up a bit on Iginla but won't be upset if we do draft him at 5. Same for Catton or Sennecke. This draft has the potential to have more plot twists than a season 1 episode of Game Of Thrones.

Have you seen a minute of his play? He skates on the inside of his edges like a Crosby, Hughes, Makar, Hutson type - very modern skater. It’s not even remotely close to average.

Dach not being injured for once would be a start , fitting the role as second center is another one. We are still unsure at this point
One of the reasons management came away positive was the fact that we did hold in as long as possible without that second C.
The thing is we have no idea what the season would look like if we did we can only surmise.
How would Dach impact the PP?
For me the weak links last season were Caufield and Matheson or at least that was where the plays broke down most often.
I doubt Dach replaces any of them which leaves Newhook as the odd man out. We need to add anywhere from 16-20 more goals to be relevant.
Dach alone won't move the needle that much.

He has the hockey IQ to match as well. It would be an amazing story for management to pick him and have the next ten years be Michkov vs Demidov.

agreed that his edgework is high end, but his straight line speed appears to be average. average isn't bad though, it's just average.

i watched some shift by shift videos, and the clips, but it's hard to tell how good his speed is vs his competition because he doesn't often have to use it. he's just so much better/smarter than the MHL.

Crosby, Hughes and Makar all also have amazing outside edges. Mohawk and "good skating" are not synonymous. It's a useful skill, but if that's all you got it's far from a complete package.

Too bad he hasn't competed against the best of his age Group for all to see.

Did you misinterpret the word "reading"?
Everyone is welcome in this thread except those who cast doubts on Demidov being a wise selection.
I'm not keen on him either. Just a gut feeling though. Like Iggy and Buium are gut feelings the other way.:D
Plus it sets me up diametrically opposed to WTK which is new ground for me. :sarcasm:

I am in no way an expert in the hockey world other than being a fan. The fact that Demidov has no KHL experience (Michkov and Silayev do) it raises a flag as a fan. Now I read and the key word is "read" that his skating is average. In this day and age I would be weary of drafting players out of Russia

Demidov mocked at #2: “I hope by some miracle he falls to us! C’mon Chicago, pick a Defenseman!!”

Demidov mocked at #5: “not so sure about his skating style. I wish I saw him vs quality competition. Too bad he’s way over in Russia. What’s up with the injury. Maybe we should go Defenseman!”

These are all questions the professionals are discussing amongst themselves.

The new mode..the New thing right now:

How this player will play in NHL playoffs...lol

What a joke. Thise is just to bash or finding a reason to not draft a sub 6.0 feet player.

I have hundreds of example of big tall guys who were invisible in playoffs.

Oh..but what about Marner in playoffs?

My answer...: what about Matthews in playoffs for christsake.....at least Marner is better defensively and he has better stats.

How Demidov will be in the playoffs? Euh...I don't know but I know that he is a supreme talent and btw I dont know about Lindstrom either

..but I know about Kucherov, Point yzerman, Sakic, St Louis Fleury, Naslund, Crosby Marchesseault etc etc..

Usually a week prior to the draft
