He takes losing very seriously and if he is adding a bit of a physical element to his game, he reaches a new level.

Anyone have a clip of Nylander covering his point man (I think game 7) ? It looked to me that he held his legs together before the shot looking like a blocking attempt but he purposely drifted out of the defenceman's shooting lane and I thought it looked like he was just pretending to block the shot. I could be wrong and maybe he did it so the goalie could see the shot coming but I'd like to see the clip again to verify.
I saw that live. Game 7 he had at least three “I’m not sacrificing“ plays.

Best/Least risky way to improve by moving 88 is to trade him for elite talent on ELC(s) and a pick and signing a UFA who brings you what we lack and can score 30 goals playing with Tavares.
How many teams will trade even one elite talent on an ELC for an elite talent on a much higher contract, and then be willing to add a draft pick?

Hpw many UFAs who can score as well an Nylander (34 goals playing with Tavares) are available for less than 7M?

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to be able to do that. I just don't see either, let alone both, being likely.

Kadri is a free agent. Never wanted to leave Tronta. His wife apparently not happy in the Excited States either. Move Nylander out for downtown Connor Brown. . Bring back Naz. Make Naz your second line centre, move Taveras to his wing. Muzzin , Kerfoot for picks or a good forth line centre package.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Taveras Kadri Brown
Engvall Kampf Kase
Clifford XXX Spezza

Reilly Brodie
Sandin Lybushkin
Gio Lily
Holl
dear god

As a former goalie, if you're not 100% committed to blocking the shot, get the f out of the way and let me see it!

Perhaps I should have used blue chip prospect with elite potential. The pick would depend on the player coming back and may not be needed.

Agreed you won't get Nylander production for the same money via UFA, hence why I said 30 goals. I was thinking Forsberg but he'll command more money. Paul seems to be the flavour the month and he could get close to 30 playing with JT and on the PP and thinking he should come in much less but after his performance in rounds 1 and 2, somebody will overpay him.

Worse than last night when Kadri screened his goalie and made a half-hearted attempt at a block on Bozak? Need to see proof of that.
Equally as bad.

He actually looked upset this AM during O’HockeyNation, after taking the game losing penalty.

Willy is about to enter the prime of his career. If we move him, we have to maximize the return because you just know that he will excel on another team for many years to come.

The time to trade Willy is next offseason.
Willy's contract is good and will be better after one more productive season.
We can afford his contract today. We will not be able to afford his next contract.

Can't see us getting a 35 goal scorer for less than $7 mill so keep him on a contract that he will out produce and trade him next off season.
I think he has a limited no trade 10 teams.
This summer is the best time to trade him.
And he has 2 yrs left on his contract

That would be fine.

It's about the Leafs winning the Cup, so if moving marner to improve the overall team you do it.

Of course you wouldn't have to retain on Nylander.

Didn't watch the game. Curious was Nylander running around hitting Canadians like he did the other day?

Just saw the highlights. Link here. Go to "Recap" and it's the second video that plays automatically that shows the penalty and result.

Tripped the Canadian player instead of playing the man. At the worst possible time! If he's a gamebreaker, he sure broke that game.

I thought Marner's NMC took effect July 1, 2024, but it's next summer, the same as Matthews. Add in Nylander's NTC, and the Leafs have major decisions to make between the end of 22-23 and June 30.

As the Overdrive guys say, that's a spicy meatball.

Canada was down 3-0 going into the 3rd. I didn’t have the sound on and looked up and they were reviewing the game tying goal.

Thanks.

Same. But perhaps if that bitter defeat is going to propel Nylander forward in his development that's a good thing to see. Wonder why Matthews and Marner didn't represent their countries?
Because they don’t get paid to represent their county and those boys ain’t doin no
pro-bono work
