Any idea why he refuses to do that here?
And hope not to run into a freaking dynasty in the first round!
You put Toronto against Florida, or most of the east and the almost the entire Western conference (sans Colorado) and we likely roll through.
Last year was a choke job.idk but those other players (latvian?) look small-ish. they don't look like NHLers. Willy looks like a beast compared to them.
but hopefully he brings that physicality to the NHL next season.
and yet they couldn't beat the worst team to make the playoffs ever, the habs. so idk. it's like they play to the level of their competition (but just a hair less to ensure a game 7 loss).
They’re probably wondering why the playoffs don’t motivate him to play like that.
Not instead of Nylander. And in the final minuters of game 7 its a great time for the three 11mills to give something back for that paycheck.Yep, down a goal in the final minutes of game 7 is no time for grinderminded puck battles. Stupid fans.

Let us not forget that that "worst team to make the playoffs ever" went on to make the Finals knocking out powerhouse Vegas to do so. The Leafs absolutely deserve blame for not closing them out after going up 3-1, but you also have to credit that Habs team (well, more Price for playing like an MVP that post-season).idk but those other players (latvian?) look small-ish. they don't look like NHLers. I was obviously referring to the video of him hitting everything in sight.Though his playoff ppg over the past three playoffs is higher rate than his regular season production. Think he may be the only Leaf who manages to be more productive during the post season (though may be wrong)
Exactly.Ive never seen a shift like that from Nylander in the NHL...Playing for his country, he cares more, tries harder he won the mvp a few years ago with that same jersey on. That Nylander is 100 point man all day long, Im stunned thats him and imagine the slap his team mates might feel from him. Id trade him.
Trade Willy for a top prospect RD and prospect center. Move JT to RW, with that prospect at center. Use additional cap to keep campbell & acquire a 2nd line LW.
Bunting Matthews Marner
LW <ProspectCenter> JT
LW Kämpf Kase
Rielly <Prospect RD>
Muzzin Brodie
Giordano Lilly
Sandin Lyubushkin
Trade Holl & Kerfoot
If Nylander and Tavares had identical contracts (7M, no NMC); which would be easier to trade, which would bring back a better return, and which would you rather keep?I tend to agree, but moving Tavares is like a bold, video game type trade.

I wonder if him playing centre, and allowed to play his style of game with players who fit with that style, rather than being forced to play wing with with a centre who may be the worst possible fit, has anything to do with that?Ive never seen a shift like that from Nylander in the NHL...Playing for his country, he cares more, tries harder he won the mvp a few years ago with that same jersey on. It’d be nice if that was the case but he’s done this before. I think it has more to do with his desire to win a IIHF medal, and the fact the competition is smaller and weaker.I have a theory.
There was a different tone in the exit meetings. Dubas and co. weren't acting like the nice guys they usually are. They called out some of those weak plays we all saw against Tampa. Nylander is getting a feeling that he may be on the chopping block. So, in a last ditch effort to stay with the team, he is playing super-aggressive at the worlds. Showing management that he has it in him to play that way.
Just a theory.
That is a pretty good theory bro. gits you a like, something I can finally do again and yeah, love being able to do it for salient posts.I have a theory.

Same. But perhaps if that bitter defeat is going to propel Nylander forward in his development that's a good thing to see. Wonder why Matthews and Marner didn't represent their countries?
Brodie is just that good.Throw in Mrazek for Varlamov. Also is that Brodie on the 1st and 3rd pairs?
Plus can you imagine Willie playing on a contract year?!The time to trade Willy is next offseason.
Willy's contract is good and will be better after one more productive season.
We can afford his contract today. We will not be able to afford his next contract.
Can't see us getting a 35 goal scorer for less than $7 mill so keep him on a contract that he will out produce and trade him next off season.
