I wondered about that.

But that's still a fair chunk of change unless he can play.

I think he'll play and be off and on IR and LTIR.

To bad he doesn't have signing bonuses.

How much retention for each round of the draft?
1st. rounder no retention
3rd. rounder 2024 1.6 retention
5th. rounder 2.6 retention
,,,

The equation is impacted by if another team sees value in his on ice play when healthy - which is something that none of us can account for just yet. Most people likely think "no, they will see no value" - but that's still just speculation. All it takes is one interested party and the price is changed

The first is Boston 1st round pick so it is extremely low

It will be $4.687m in cap savings (but keep in mind Kerfoot is probably gone so that will be $3.5m off the books)

I'd like to resign ROR and Acciari for sure

Should we trade away the 1st for someone to pick up Murray's contract?
Trade if you have to retain 1 mill + 5th rd pk
Or
Buyout

Lots of teams need goaltending

Take a look at the cap in 2024- 2025

Brodie will be a Ufa

Forwards
Mathews 13 mil
JT 11 mil
Marner 10.903 mil
Nylander 9 mil
OReilly 5.5 mil or 6 mil
Accuri 1.5 mil
Knies .985 mil
Jamcrock 2.1 mil
McMann .985 mil
Holmberg .985 mil
Steve's. 985 mil

11 forwards @ 56.423 mil

Defence
Reilly 7.5 mil
McCabe 2 mil
Liljegren 2.5 mil
Schenn 1 mil
Timmins 1.1 mil
Neimela .985 mil

6 dman @ 15.085

GOAL
Sammy 4 mil

Cap 84.5 the cap is supposed to be higher

By my calculations we should be fine

Boston adds 4.5 mil dead cap from players over achieving.

Dubas adds 4.5 mil dead cap for dead players.

Core 4 continuously bailing scooby doo out from himself.

Nice find with O'Reilly though. Too bad you already cost us 1 or 2 cups before doing something good.

Well Mrazek played 39 games ... worked out for Chicago.

But the offseason decisions are inherently shaped by what happens these next few weeks

Murray is going to have to make a miraculous recovery, get an opportunity to play then play like a God for a decent length of time

Not impossible but highly unlikely

I think it's fair to speculate about his future with the team at this point

No, and I'm not the guy talking about needing to keep 1st round picks, I don't care if they make a single pick in this draft.

But if you are going to trade it, trade it for immediate help, you got Bunting and Kerfoot to replace, even if you think Knies is ready, and he looks like it, he can only replace one there is still a hole there.

You got Holl to replace.

You might have ROR to replace.

If you are going to trade it use the pick to acquire immediate help.

Hell no.

He'll have one year left, and if he's injured you just LTIR him. If he's giving you .900 goaltending, that's good enough for the regular season.

We can just qualify Samsonov and run the same goaltending next year and then Murray will fall off the books if Samsonov deserves an extension.

No to a 1st cause eventually Murray will be hurt. O'Reilly is the main piece to resign this year.

Kerfoot and Holl's money 5.5 goes to O'Reilly. Knies takes Bunting's 950k salary so you got your top 6 which for now includes Jankrok.

Murray 4.6 goes to Samsanov in 2 years and Woll becomes the backup.

You already have 6 D signed for next year so it's a matter of filling out the depth

no need to shed his salary.

My understanding is that Woll will no longer be waiver-exempt next season. So, the Leafs would either need to move him or they would risk losing him when they tried to assign him to the Marlies. I suppose they could carry 3 goalies but the Leafs are often tight to the cap and may not want that extra $767K on the books. It makes more sense (to me anyway) to move on from Murray and make Woll the back-up.

I have read a few people on here talk about how thin the goalie market is this summer, now not sure how true that is but we could get creative and take advantage of that. Samsonov has been good this year no doubt, but people seem quick to forget just how up and down goalie's can be. 902 and 896 save percentage in the 2 years prior to coming to the leafs. he's still young so this year could be a sign of improvement or it could be a 1 good year. so instead of paying to move Murray don't leave out the idea of capitalizing on a thin goalie market by thinking we could move Samsonov for a quality pick/prospect. let Woll and Murray start as our tandem, and sign a cheap veteran 3rd string who can play when Murray gets injured. just another idea, I'm not married to automatically re-signing Samsonov. his ask on a contract might very well determine this. if it truly would cost us something to move Murray,

I voted yes, but really, no point in him coming back next season. Get a contract done with Sammy and Woll can backup and grow.

There are a few rebuilding teams that might take a flyer on Murray, or some lower cap teams that could use the cap hit to hit the floor.

It won’t cost nearly that much. He’s basically the same player as a year ago, and the Sens only needed to pay a 3rd round pick to dump 2 years, won’t cost us a late 1st to dump 1 year.

Likewise, to dump 2 years of Mrazek at $3.8 mil AAV, we only had to trade down from 25th to 38th. Murray isn’t great, but he’s much better than Mrazek.

I do think we should trade Murray, but it won’t cost us a 1st, unless you’re talking about trading down from late 1st to early 2nd.
