The Ultimate Stanley Cup
The trophy that fans typically see is a fraction of the complete artifact. What would the Cup look like if all of the rings were put together?www.espn.com

When did a massage therapist get their name on the Cup?
This whataboutism doesn’t make your bad idea any less bad but I don’t think that actually happened.
Just put the old rings on a second cup they slowly build up till its a certain size and then another and another keep at hhof
Exactly. It takes a team to win the cup, from the training staff to the superstars. It makes 0 sense to put names on the cup who have never won itWhat makes the Stanley Cup so special is you have to earn your way on to it, and the only way to do that is by winning the championship.
Marcel Dionne was a marvellous player and a well-deserved Hockey Hall of Fame. But he didn't win the Stanley Cup so there's no way his name should be on there. You have to earn it, and you earn it by winning it.
I think they should save the bottom ring for advertisers. Think of the revenue. Everytime you saw a pic of someone holding the cup, you would get that added product/corporate plug. All the names of Hall of Famers?
Eventually, teams and their players are removed and a new ring is added, so all players that win the Cup will eventually have their names removed from it.
Hall of Famers, regardless of winning a Cup or not, would have their name engraved on the Cup forever. I know this is bucking tradition, but I think it would be pretty cool to truly immortalize the greats of the game on the best trophy in sports.
Like I said, I get if some people aren’t down with this idea but if the NHL did it would you be OK with it?
This will eventually become a thing, and I hate that.I think they should save the bottom ring for advertisers. Think of the revenue. Everytime you saw a pic of someone holding the cup, you would get that added product/corporate plug.
There. Now there's a new dumbest idea in the thread. I figured I would take some of the heat off of the OP.
You're welcome.
I can't remember what I was watching the other day but they raised an excellent point. They were talking about Soccer and how there are ads on literally everything. The point that was raised was that they don't have play stoppages and there's no place to put commercials. Most of our sports in North America were basically built for TV, so we get the ads in the breaks. They need to do it anywhere else they can fit it. I don't think you're ever going to see the Stanley Cup brand up for sale. It's not really necessary, I was just being a jerk. This will eventually become a thing, and I hate that.
