Rumor: Should the CBJ pursue Elias Pettersson?

This is a rare opportunity. Pettersson is an incredible talent that would do wonders here. Evason would maximize him and he'd be back to 80+ points seasons, I'm fairly confident in that.

Some of the suggestions here are funny, there's no way Vancouver is taking Sillinger as the main piece along with some picks.

The ask is going to be Fantilli plus and if you're getting Pettersson, you don't "need" Fantilli. I like mayor's suggestion of giving them Severson, it'd be fairer.

That said I'd much rather go in the direction of Lindstrom+ but I doubt Vancouver goes that direction.

Chinakhov, Sillinger and 1st I think is a steal for us, as much as I dont want to lose Chinny. Once again I doubt it as Chinny isn't healthy.

My thought is, you should probably not make this trade unless it's heavily in your favor, i.e. no Marchy, Voronkov, KJ, Fantilli, Chinny.

If its for other pieces, Id consider it. This is a trade that Jarmo would be all over and that's something that scares me. This team could really use someone like Dobson a whole lot more.

I’m trying to handle all these posts essentially disregarding and downplaying Chinakhov and treating him like some “throw in” in these trades, but, I can’t handle it anymore.

Chinakhov is on a completely different level than Sillinger as a player, and has much more trade value than both him and Provorov.

How about we keep ALL of Chinakhov, Marchenko, Voronkov, Johnson, and Fantilli…

When I am looking at what to trade on this team It's mostly what I think their place/value would be if our cup window opens in another couple of years. My basic assumption at this point is that Sillinger gets replaced almost no matter what as LDBB and Lindstrom are both Centers coming for his spot and at least one if not both look to pass him on the depth chart in the next three years. Likewise, Proverov+Severson and a few other D as Svozil, Elick, Marrelli look to have pretty clear lines on mid pair duties if their development continues. On the wing I see Brindley as a top 6 lock starting next year and Kirill Dolzhenkov as someone that could be the next russian phenom meaning someone like Chinakov and Jenner are at least replaceable if not outright upgrades.

If you forward project our team there are a lot of clear roster players who likely don't have a place due to internal development and cap questions. If we can turn those guys into a piece that makes us more competitive earlier and might even give extra time to develop and shelter a Lindstom or a Brindley I think it makes a ton of sense as those will be assets I don't see on the team long term no mater what.

Also, on the contract, by the mid point of that contract it could very well look like a reasonable deal, as the cap goes up. Marner and Rantanen are going to get 14+ Million playing with some of the best in the world and EP40 was right in the mix with them for the last two years playing with significantly worse linemate. Even if he only ever gets back to 2023-2024 form he could be one of the best contracts in the league and will probably be a pretty standard "top line" contract in three years.

Anything along these lines is a steal for a player of Pettersson's caliber. I am doubtful they ever move him.

The whole "production" drop is overblown imo. Production relies on a lot of factors and his stats aren't even bad, he's great analytically and this can only improve being inputted into a great system like Evason's.

This team can really use another line to help the secondary scoring, both now and in the future. Pettersson would also be easiest the most talented center we have ever had, I really think Miller is the one that's going to get traded, Pettersson isn't a player you find easily.

Outside of the Injury (Which legitimately is huge although based off the latest news its sounds positive) Lindstrom wouldn't even be in the conversation. I could see breaking them down as categories and select one from each.

I would be more willing to give MN and our 1st than Lindstrom. The potential there is greater than almost anything we could get in the draft this year. If the model for the deal is Eichel I would be more than willing to do Sillinger+ Severson (Proverov retained if necessary)+ Our 1st +MN 1st. That is a direct upgrade to our roster now and in the future and makes us a significantly more difficult team to shut down offensively, which I think will be important as we get closer to and maybe even into the playoff. Monahan and the Russians will get targeted aggressively and will see there numbers come down to earth as they see more top quality goal tending. Forcing Teams to also deal with Ep-40 and KJ and then Fantilli and Chinakov would be a nightmare on defense and should help our ability to simply keep a hold of the puck.

I would love to make some sort of trade for a top goalie or a Top Pair D but unfortunately they aren't in the conversation. This is the one option (currently) that could allow us to keep our current and future roster progress almost unchanged.

I'd rather trade for someone built to be a playoff warrior that can drag the team into the fight when the going gets tough.

I don't think EP40 is that guy. I see him as a better more talented Laine for this team than a push the team over the top. It's like Marner, Matthews, Riley, and nylander in Toronto.... all the skill in the world but not much for it in the playoffs when the going gets tough.

Guys like Bergeron that didn't have a many points but fought like starving dogs when it matters is what we need.

It's a they don't love to win... they don't hate to lose thing.

We need the don't hate to lose. The physical and mental toughness to pay the price when the game gets heavy and hard. And I just don't see that with EP40. Rantanen as mentioned earlier fits better (and is a UFA). Maybe Brady Tkachuk or Marchand or pasta become available though I doubt that.
