I've wanted to see what Gibson could do on a better team. If Anaheim takes 50% (which they likely won't) I'd listen.

Always wanted Gibson to come back home but the idea I had in my head was the Pens fire Sully this past summer, get Gibson for Jarry ++ and he bounces back with the new coach and a Pens team with more youth in the line up. Ned is definitely not the answer but Canes do need to do something here. Already 2 or 3 games have been lost this year because Martin was in net instead of Kochetkov or a competent goaltender. Canes are scoring consistently this year but can’t outscore this problem every night especially against good teams with good goalies.

The sooner they find a solution the more cushion they can add to their point total

The Canes have a ton of assets, and roughly 20m coming off the cap this summer that they can replace internally with ELCs. They should be shooting the moon here. They should be adding a top goalie AND be sniffing around another top line forward; they are one of the few teams that might be able to do both.

Other years, they've been scapegoats for that chunk of hockey fans that fixate on the position. They've been provided little run support. That's on the skaters, particularly the core forwards that have been a part of the powerplay that has let them down again and again and again.

I'll take my chances with Kochetkov and Andersen no problem. Load up on that forward group. Maybe they can build overwhelming depth 5v5 to overcome another special teams meltdown.

It's fair to say that while he held his own for most of the playoffs, Raanta fell apart the last 2 games in 2022 against the Rangers so Goaltending definitely had a meaningful impact on that series, but in general, I agree with you. Came to say this. Agree with the sentiment of the post but Canes should have won the series against the Rangers for a number of reasons. Raanta played great until he didn’t and there was no safety net. Kind of same (to a degree) with Andersen against the Rangers last year. Yes, better goaltending wins us that series but it really wasn’t until game 6 until it really unravelled. A real shame because Canes were half a period away from bringing that 3-0 series deficit to game 7 with all the momentum in the world.

It's a fair point, but I feel that framing downplays his contributions in that series leading up to it. His statline (.917/2.17) for the round was very similar to that of Vasilevskiy (.919/2,35) in the conference finals. NST's all strengths GSAA was +2.61. The skaters gave him little chance to be average or have an off game. In the 3 wins, none of which were blowouts, he gave up 2 GA total.

guys not playing like top guys when the real grinding starts.

Their Goalies will heal, they will have plenty of time to right their ship in that regard, the bigger problem doesn't have a clear-cut answer.

I have great respect for that team and know what they are very capable of, but that GM better be VERY careful of the moves he does or does not make at the deadline this year.

I'm also not sure about Rod spreading out the top liners as much as he has lately. Playing Svetch on the 4th line does make the team deeper, but worse up top.
