Should IIHF ban Canada from all international hockey for now due to hockey Canada sex scandal.
Russia and Belarus got banned due to war in Ukraine so why IIHF should allow Canada's participation
to all international hockey whic is held under IIHF due to serious sex scandal in hockey Canada.

Don't get me wrong i like Canada and i respect Canadian hockey players.
But if Russia and Belarus were banned due to war in Ukraine then why Canada should be exception to the rule.
War is serious crime against all human rights and it's also serious violation of all international justice.
But sex scandal with real sexual crimes and violence isn't minor issue either.

IIHF president Luc Tardif has already said IIHF will investigate all sexual assaults and abuses in Hockey Canada.
So should Canada get banned from international hockey for now lets say next 2-3 years.

The game must be fair and the rules and treatment must be the same for everyone regardless of the circumstances
That's why my answer is YES.

That is really one of the worst arguments I've seen on this site for some time. Russia and Belarus got banned for a totally different reason on a massively different scale, and you suggest that "the rules and treatment must be the same for everyone regardless of the circumstances." with presumably a straight face.

Someone can think that Canada should be banned, ridiculous as that would be at the moment, but at least come up with a somewhat legitimate reason.

There should be consequences and punitive elements to those consequences, whether that then would be an outright ban or other meaningful measures is an open question. I would favor other types of punishment if that can be implemented in a severe enough way.

I wouldn't mind it. Spending funds on trying to cover up sexual crime and paying hush money instead of solving the case and finding the criminals responsible is very inappropriate.

So you propose that after the police did not lay charges and Hockey Canada had its own investigation in which the accuser would not provide a statement, Hockey Canada should have "solved the case" where the police did not? Makes a lot of sense.

I'm not a fan of sanctioning current athletes for "sins of the fathers" but it does make for an interesting discussion given the scope of the Hockey Canada scandal. It's even more interesting since the Russian hockey federation has been blacklisted for reasons completely unrelated to the sport. Canada is the crown jewel of international hockey ($$$) so I doubt any kind of significant hammer is coming.

Yeah. What's a little invasion and mass slaughter of civilians between friends and all.

I say ban them. Russia is already banned for completely stupid reasons.

International hockey is a joke right now. Might as well even it up and make it more of a joke.

Why not ban Ukraine then also?

I have no idea what you're talking about, other than I'm certain that you incorrectly inferred that I weighed in of whether Russia and Belarus should have been banned.

So, they should punish players that had nothing to do with the 2018 incident, while those that were involved get off with no punishment? Would merely compound the mistakes made in dealing with the incident.

Spot on. Canada won't get suspended because they make the IIHF all the money.

But in terms of actual proximity to crimes and culpability for them, Hockey Canada should be suspended. The hockey organizations of Russia and Belarus are not directly (or really even indirectly) responsible for Putin's mad war.

But Hockey Canada brass are directly responsible for the cover-ups of sexual assault allegations and using registration fees for a sex assault hush/slush fund.

Hockey Canada gets to keep most of that money though, for the IIHF the WJC organizer fees are little more than peanuts. It's more that the European federations don't make a whole lot of money hosting the junior tournaments while Hockey Canada does.

Russia and Belarus deserved to get banned with their war of aggression. These scenarios aren't remotely comparable.
What about Ukraine? Where does it say in any IIHF rule that you get banned for starting a war and not retaliating? Further, how can you distill so easily who started it? I'm sure Russia would suggest that Ukraine and other countries helping Ukraine provoked them.

It's true that the Canada scenario would be different from banning countries due to war, but it's all pretty stupid. Why should the upcoming kids that'll be taking part be punished for something that had absolutely nothing to do with them?

However you feel about the bans, you can't really say that Russia/Belarus should be banned, but Canada shouldn't because their current players had nothing to do with the situation. That's not logically consistent.

Committing mass geocide, displacing millions of people and crumbing another country then the co-signing (Belarus) of it is a little more earth shattering that a sexual assault scandal. I don't want to downplay the seriousness of it by any means because it is a huge problem and should be dealt with immediately. I highly doubt Canada is prevented from playing international hockey, should they? Absolutely but don't get your hopes up.

Can you get banned for contorting reality?
