I agree he wasnt a wade redden type bust. his first year was pretty good. the problem is that sather gave him a 9 year deal when he was already in his 30's. I originally wnated richards but when i heard the deal was that long i cringed. However i hoped Richards would at least be good for 4-5 years of teh contract

Well, if the new CBA didn't end up being what it was, he would have played out those 4-5 years of his contract. He was solid this year despite the late playoff implosion.

Dear god that is horrifying.

Everyone should be praying that Brad Richards doesn't have an undisclosed injury. If he does and it requires surgery I believe we can't buy him out. Which would be catastrophic.

That is why he should have been bought out last summer. If he is injured we are screwed.

I understand your post but it really was a 6 year deal. They just stretched it over 9 for cap reasons. I think he only had 1 mill a year coming to him in the last 3 seasons of the contract. Regardless his time is over as a Ranger because the team needs that cap money to sign other players.

Atleast he didn't get concust and can be bought out. He did his best and helped this yr . Overall it was almost a success keeping him an extra yr

2nd year in a row that he was either scratched or demoted in the lineup in the playoffs. he just doesnt have the legs to be relied upon anymore. buy him out and hope JT Miller can be relied on at even strength to center a 3rd line.

would be surprised in Richards was injured. He was one of the better forwards in game five and played pretty darn good on the point. That's why AV kept him there, and in fact, his lack of adjustment earlier in the game (switching Richards and Moore), may have adversely affected the team as Moore clearly wasn't getting it done and Richards had a jump in his step but no business playing on the line he was playing on. Prior to game five, he just looked like a guy out of gas. Mentally and physically.

If Richards is injured, we're screwed. With that being said, even if he is, I doubt he pushes it far enough as to go on IR. He actually stands to make more money if he is bought out and signs with a new team. He's already made $33M of his $60M contract, and he gets 2/3 of the remainder in a buyout, which by my calculation is $18M. To bridge the gap between the buyout and what he would have made in NY, he only needs $9M over the next 6 years. I could easily see him getting a Lecavalier type contract and actually making more than he would have staying here. I'm sure the Rangers and his agent both know the numbers.
