Signing(s): Shohei Ohtani signs with the Dodgers (10 years, $700 million)

A surprise to no one. Think it would have been cooler to see him in Seattle though.

Back to the Angels, they have wasted Trout(when he was healthy) and Ohtani. That's Detroit Lions territory.

Only 3-4 teams could do that contract. That's the problem with pro baseball.
Arte could've and probably would’ve signed this contract, but there’s not a chance in hell the Angels would be better off for it. When Arte refuses to surpass the luxury tax, there is no way we could add a $50M dollar (in luxury tax hit) to the payroll to go along with the $74 million currently going to Trout and Rendon to sit on the IL for half the year without absolutely crippling the rest of the roster, which is why I’m elated it wasn’t the Angels signing this deal.

In an ideal world Arte sells last year like he was supposed to and a serious spender buys the team and gets Ohtani to buy in but that’s not the world we live in

Worse than the Lions imo. At least Calvin and Barry weren't on the same team at the same time like Trout/Othani . This was unprecedented ineptness by the Halos. They couldn't even make the Playoffs with both. And the one time with Trout they got swept in the ALDS by the Royals... I dont like the Angels but I feel for their fans.

Seriously who really thought Ohtani was going to leave Cali for Canada?

And who cares what amount of money it took for the Dodgers to sign him? If they gave him that money, they obviously don't care. It's not like any money a team spends or doesn't spend is a fan problem yet many internet accountants suddenly have hot takes when a big name moves to a different team.

Dodgers want to win, they go out and get the biggest name on the market. That's what a winning organization does.

GMs from bidding teams can rest easy knowing they can say thru the media "well, we offered this guy half a billion dollars" and not look cheap, tho.

Most people want to see their team have a well rounded roster. If you know your owner wont spend every dollar they need for the team to be good, its reasonable to be upset when too much is allocated to one player

That's an owner problem. Fans do not dictate what an owner does with his own money.

Draft better, scout better.
