Toronto is just a small market in the eyes of athletes it just is....even if it is top 5 population in North America

Oh My God... Like I wanted him on the Jays badly but wow... what a contract. Can't even process the magnitude of this deal. $700m.... $70m a year... insanity
You nailed it. Considering all the speculation about people talking “will it be 550? might go past 600” this number is just flabbergasting. I was stupidly try to put NA sports salaries in the context of those earned by European footballers (traditionally, before the market became distorted by the state clubs, Saudi Arabia, et). Well, 1.346m a week is nothing to sneeze at.

I’m also laughing at my dumbass self from a few months ago, thinking (hoping) the Mariners even had a hope in hell of swimming in this pool. Jesus, I'm naive.

Money is no object for the Dodgers. This is as much a business move for them. There will be even more interest and tickets sold to see Dodgers play. Growing the brand and the business.

Also you can’t say “worst contract” in sports history without seeing the ‘unprecedented’ deferrals and how much his actual salary will be against the payroll and how it might hamstring dodgers spending in future years.

Even though I had started to have some small 5% doubts the last few days, the Dodgers were always where I saw him going.

Compared to Toronto, the Dodgers:

1 - More money
2 - Greater track record of contending
3 - Bigger market
4 - Better weather

The Dodgers have been clearing some payroll over the last few years in anticipation of Ohtani becoming a free agent.

It was difficult to imagine them not being able to get their targeted player.

I mean I think we all predicted this last year. They still need a few starters though. Cant be running out a 36 year old Lance Lynn in an elimation game.

I’m outta the loop and don’t pay attention to baseball rumors, why are Jays fans so bent out of shape in here? He was never coming to the east coast, never mind Canada lmao.

So, Bellinger to the Jays then?

In terms of fit, he's exactly what Toronto needs, and you know they'll be desperate to save face after missing out on both Ohtani and Soto after it was reported they were the "favorites" to land them

And if not Bellinger, then perhaps Christian Yelich? Reports indicate the Brewers would love to shed his contract...
