Georgiev is an NHL starting caliber goalie, we better get a high quality pick, prospect or a young NHL player. I don't care if he is a goalie, the return has to be there.

Which goalie was the last to generate such a return in a trade? Probably Ben Bishop? But the Kings wouldn't have done that deal had they known how good Cernak is...they traded Bishop to the Stars for a 4th round pick I think it was.

Raanta also comes to mind but I think Stepan was considered the main piece in this deal.

They can't make a decision on Georgiev until Shesty gets real NHL playing time. This is as simple as it gets. Once the brass determines Shesty is the real deal, Georgie gets dealt. Not hard to understand.

Doesn't make any sense. Firstly, it will be next to impossible for a rookie to succeed as part of a goalie trio and secondly, this call up lowered Georgiev's trade value significantly. If their plan was to trade Georgiev, then they would have done it before they called up Shesterkin.

Frederick Anderson I believe got a late first and second. Georgiev is only 23 and younger than Anderson was at the time of the trade.

Closest I remember is Varlamov to Colorado for a first (which became Forsberg) and a second. Doesn't happen often.

Best way to trade Georgie is part of a Kreider trade imo.
Not if the other team isnt looking for a forward or a goalie...

it worked out well with the Raanta/Step trade only because they needed both, most teams at the deadline won’t aside from one or two. Might get more sending each to a different team.

God bless him. Avalanche is one hell of a first game. Throwing him in against MacKinnon and company, who has been doing fantastic.

Hopefully the team plays well in front of him.

True, forgot about that. However Andersen also had played in ~130 NHL games and 30 playoff games to that point, plus a whole bunch of international tournaments. I think he was viewed as a bit more of a known quantity and sure-thing than Georgiev. Though I personally think Georgiev is more talented.

It's tough to know the market with goalies. Georgiev could get you a first this year and then a third next year. It's so hard to know exactly who is looking for help at the position, and then it seems a lot of teams devalue the position even if they recognize they need it.

I don't think Georgiev's value is lowered, at all. The Rangers' goaltending situation is not a secret, everyone knows we likely have to move someone eventually. And if they try to play it like they're okay running a three goalie rotation going into next season that actually increases Georgiev's value as it would signal that we don't feel we have to move him, and will only move him for a premium.

Goalies who have pedigree and nhl experience might fetch a first, Varlamov, Schneider, Lehner. I can’t see a scenario of Georgiev getting anything significant back at this time, so no way I give him away for some low picks. He’s only proven To be a capable backup that can handle a few games in a row and not much else. Move Hank to Carolina, let him make a couple more runs while he has the chance, he needs to wake up and see opportunity to win will not happen in his remaining tenure here. Keep Georgiev and Shesty for the future.

They can’t move hank anywhere he doesn’t want to go

The more I think about it, the more I feel this is the best way to go about it. Everyone (including Hank and Georgiev) knew a decision would have to be made by next season. Give Shesty a pile of games in the second half and go from there. Helpfully, all three goalies are saying the right things right now.

How does being a part of a goalie trio affect his ability to stop pucks during the game? Very odd.

They can't make a decision on Shesterkin until they actually see and can evaluate him at the NHL level which he currently has zero experience in.

Not enough games left until trade deadline to evaluate a goalie...a few games mean exactly nothing.

Trio is crap...no quality practices and no regular starts possible unless you wanna piss at least one guy off. Rotating between all three will piss off all three of them...ask the Isles.

Or ask Vanbiesbrouck, Richter and Bob Froese.
I don’t believe it is about his workload, more about his fortitude.

Here is my theoretical spin.
Gorton has been getting calls from teams on Georgiev. So he calls up Shesterkin to see how he performs at the NHL level.
If he does well Georgiev gets traded.

See how he performs for how many games? 3? 5? You won't get anything close from a good sample size until the trade deadline. To actually evaluate a goalie, you need to give him 20-30 games at least...and even then there's no guarantee. The more you play a guy, the higher the chance that he gets figured out.

There's just no reason to trade the younger and kinda proven Georgiev unless there's an unreal offer on the table.
