“Having Igor playing in Hartford and his situation with his deal and everything, you’re aware of the big picture, for sure,” Lundqvist said. “But when and how and if and all that, you can’t get too involved in that.”

There you go..Igor had to be called up,,,thats the explanation they gave Hank.

There goes my Lindy Ruff will get traded to Anaheim article...

If nothing else with all the hullabaloo, I'm really excited to see how Shesty's career kicks off, and under some heavy shot traffic as well.

We'll get better looks at how he deals with NHL level screens, lateral speed, and bouncing back mentally from tough losses.

It seems like it's been so many years that he's been considered an amazing "Someday." Right after his 24th birthday too.

Hank's still playing well btw. Franchise icon. Stole probably 100 wins for the team over his career. Too bad, **** you, there's something shiny over there. Feels bad.
Yeah...but I think what is best for the team overrides Hanks feelings. I hate Belichick but he is a master at removing feelings and doing what is best for the team no matter what.

I don't really understand why so many people here seem to be very against the idea of running three goalies? It's not like Shesty's ELC is adding that much to the cap. My preference would be to trade Georgiev to recoup assets, but if each guy got 25-30 games next year and Hank retired after 2020-21, I wouldn't have any issue with that approach either.

Yeah like you move pieces for veterans to help you win the cup.

The Leafs move pieces and money for players who don't help them.
Who have they acquired that isn't helping?

Also, I don't think an $8.5m backup goalie is what they need. Maybe signed next year on a cheap contract would be a good move. Hank probably wouldn't want that though.

It’s not good for the goalies to get the type of practice they generally need since there’s only 2 nets

Don’t be surprised if something happens with San Jose. That was a ridiculous loss yesterday. They may have hit the panic button and made a deal for a goalie.

San Jose could trade for Vasilevskiy, Bishop or Price and it at wouldn't change a thing. Their Coach is a grade A moron and their team sucks. Bunch of overpaid one way players. Their roster doesn't make any sense either. That loss had nothing to do with Jones...they were just too dumb and careless. That icing Karlsson caused at around 59:30 was horrible. Every beer leaguer could have done better. There was zero pressure and zero reason to ice the puck there. And this guy won two Norris trophies and received a crazy contract in San Jose...wtf

I don't get this move unless Lundqvist is retiring mid season. There was no need for this call up and there's no goalie market. Georgiev isn't worth much so it wouldn't make sense to trade him...and if he ever had any value, it surely didn't go up now that every team knows about the Rangers goalie problem...

It would be very dirty but those permanent illnesses and Lundqvist still backing up makes me think if their plan is to get out of his contract. Surely looks like they're trying hard to piss him off...

I just don't think it's the right move. Quinn hasn't even really been splitting starts this season so much as playing the hot hand at the moment.

Trying to balance so that three goalies play 27 games each seems to me an option that leads to three pissed off goalies as opposed to one or two.

Not to mention theres a lot of practice drills and skirmishes that would be awkward to work with three goalies.

In college we had always had two goalies on the bench but one of them was always very much part of the "practice squad" so to speak, they didn't participate in A team drills and their job was mostly to open and close the board doors for guys.

I just don't think that's in Management's mind at all.

That's a different issue than HFNYR as a whole sorta kinda dumpstering him.

The kid is too good for the AHL. The Rangers need to see him get some NHL games under his belt. What did you expect them to do? He was not going to stay at Hartford for another year.

Hold on— you actually think having 3 goalies on an active NHL roster is good for any one of the 3? You do realize virtually no NHL franchise has ever done this for any sustained period of time.

Georgiev is an NHL starting caliber goalie, we better get a high quality pick, prospect or a young NHL player. I don't care if he is a goalie, the return has to be there.

It's tough to run practices when you have three goalies and two nets. And then you have to divvy up the starts between two young developing goalies and the aging star, which basically ends up with no one playing enough and everyone unhappy.

Guys can deal with being part of a tandem. But part of a threesome is too much. It's like how pitchers hate six man rotations. It just throws them out of their rhythms and schedules and everybody is miserable.

From a strategic standpoint, I like the timing of this. Historically, teams lay an egg their first game back after a long road trip. This will create some buzz in the room. You'd assume the boys will want to play well in front of Igor and not hang him out to dry in his first game. We'll see how it plays out, but this will be an exciting one for the fans. The Avs will be on the second half of a back to back (playing the Fishsticks at the moment) so hopefully we don't get their A game.
