The defensemen talk was going on for two or three pages before I said anything...
Don't blame me.
Don't blame me.
So you want to blame the 4 and 5 Dmen in ES ATOI for the defensive woes? It's pretty crazy to say that the team was bad defensively while in the same breath try to deflect blame from the defensive defensemen.
Bahl and Siegenthaler literally only have one job, if they're not playing good defense then they aren't bringing any value to the roster. If you want to know why the defense sucked last year, that's a great place to start.
I don’t watch much of his stuff but this was actually a really informative video about Keefe and how he thinks he will fit with this roster. Worth a watch.

The #4 who had a concussion and a broken foot and the #5 who has never played a full season of NHL hockey before this one.
That's insane. Luke leading the entire team in time on ice was easily the biggest problem on Defense.
Nemec playing 20 minutes a night as a 19 year old is a close 2nd
When your partner was Dougie Hamilton and now it's rookie Nemec it is not a BS excuse. His xGF% with Nemec was 44.69 (390 minutes) and with Hamilton was 57.08 (252 minutes). Those were the only two partners he played more the 150 minutes with at even strength.

Matt Corrente and Mark Fraserso which 2 DMen should have led the team in ice time if it werent those 2?
Please enlighten us.
I don't underestimate Keefe...I honestly have no idea what to expect from him.
And I definitely do think our young defenders could be good enough to make the playoffs.
On Harley, 22 is a lot different than 20 in Luke or 19 in Nemec.
Harley came into this season with 131 AHL games and 40 NHL games...and he was lucky enough to be paired with Heiskanen the vast majority of the season.
Luke came into this season with 2 NHL games. Nemec came into this season with 65 AHL games...that is substantially different.
I don't think all experience is good experience.... getting your head kicked in for 82 games is not good experience.
This thread had a good run
I wanted Berube, but I'm willing to have some faith in Keefe. I'm glad the Devils went outside the organization, as the team needed a departure from the status quo. If Keefe brings some structure, especially defensively, it can only help. And he was popular with the stars in Toronto, which gives hope that he'll get the most out of Hughes/Hughes/Hischier/Hamilton/Bratt/Meier.
Love our true American fans. I'm assuming you are...
Nylander was seeing double
He was playing against the Sedins?
Apparently a migraine bad enough that he was seeing double. He was playing against the Sedins?
I’m not going to read half this thread. Just know Keefe is one of the more creative coaches that employs multiple systems in every zone depending on certain reads. I’m sure his train wreck of a defense during his entire tenure severely limited his abilities to maximize his team’s production offensively and defensively…which is a scary prospect given the potential of NJs defense.
I love people that talk about adjustments schematically as if you can teach/tweak systems in the middle of the playoffs. Changes aren’t always a good thing, especially if the process is working, sometimes puck luck ain’t on your side.
the sheldon is dead. long live the chaddabombs.
Ok, stop it right now before he rips up the contract and returns to his lake and boat.
