I wouldn't say Q is coming off a tremendous season.

Well, led the WHL in playoff goals by a good amount with 16. Only 2 of which were PPG.

25th in regular season scoring, while not tremendous, still very good when factoring in the role he played on the team.

I'm higher on him than most Devils' fans, though. I expect him to be a 40 point guy that is strong on the PK.

Shattenkirk would take a player similar in value to what you got for Larsson (or more, considering you guys won that trade heavily in terms of value).

Fowler wouldn't be cheap either.

This post is just silly. Shattenkirk is a UFA in a year. You're out to lunch.

If UFAs had the type of value you are alluding to, every single team would trade their impending UFAs every single year.

Meh on Fowler but would be interested in Shattenkirk.

I think it's tough because I think the Blues need talent to win now and giving up futures doesn't make a ton of sense.

Boucher would be a guy that kind of fits that bill instead of Quenneville. I just don't know of a good package with him?

I think STL hangs onto Shattenkirk to see what they have this year and if it looks good they ride him thru the POs. If they get bumped, his rights get moved, probably to an east coast team. He ends up signing with best option available ($/Term) and I believe its a team in the NY metro area (NJD, NYR, NYI, PHI) and maybe even Wash. I woudl love to go after him in FA, and if Shero could pull off deal below it makes NJ a more desireable spot to come.

I suggested a week ago a trade of Mike Mike Cammalleri retained at 50% for Fowler. It came we disagreement from both sides, with some solid facts (injury history, term left, scoring pace on a starved goal-scoring team), but Mike C at $2.5M for a Ducks team in need of a top LW in a win-now mode seems like it could work with an add from Jersey (Blandisi-to answer the injury question). Ana has a bunch of young D almost ready to come up so the lose of Fowler is not as painful and NJ is not competing short-term until about the time Cams contract is up here, Also talk that we would expose him in LV exp draft to recoup the $.

Now that Lars has been moved, I think a move like this would help.
How about 50% retention on Cams + a sweetener for Fowler or something similar.
Anaheim looks lean on the left side and with retention they are getting good bang for their buck. We hang onto Blan because we need rostered players and they get cap relief along with a sniper at half off.

Cams has a NTC but its Southern Ca and Ducks are not a sucky team. I believe it can work

Mike Cammalleri scored at almost at a PPG
At $5M its ridiculous to take his contract. But at $2.5M he's a sniper on LW which appears to be lean in Ana. He would play with Getz and Perry

He played his entire career in the West before coming to NJ so he knows that side of the league.
I also included a + (not a first)

Ana is win now mode with the core guys getting up there. If you trade for a first, its more than likely that guy does not play for a min of 1-2 yrs unless its #1 OA. Devs suck but I don't think we would be worst team in the league to get you that. Cams does miss games, no doubt, but that's why the +
Its not the prettiest proposal buts answers things for both teams

is the answer jesus

Adam Larsson was locked up for several more seasons on a fantastic contract, Shattenkirk is a pending UFA. Larsson holds significantly more value.

Would rather just keep what we have, draft more Dmen and let the youth develop. Selling off these young players with promise is going to come back to bite us. Plus, their value isn't very high right now, yet.

You do realise that Shatty could be moved with a contract extension already agreed between him and his new team? Trade and signs happen all the time.

Quenneville + 2017 1st is the highest I'd go for Shattenkirk. Q is coming off a tremendous season, and projects to have a ceiling of a Henrique clone. I'm a huge fan, but McLeod immediately replaces his spot in the prospect depth chart.

If the Blues would rather do a one-for-one with Shattenkirk, we don't have anything to offer.

I personally wouldn't want to do it, but we do have Mike Cammalleri.

And yet while I would love Shattenkirk, half of me would rather us go the above route.

I'd be happy with whatever Shero decides is appropriate. I trust him fully.

Yes, now name me the teams that can afford the 6 year, 6+ average contract he is going to want and get. Trade and sign won't be quite that easy.

Quite a few, especially when you consider salary will be going to St. Louis in a trade as well. His extension won't take effect until next season, so the amount of teams will be even higher that can fit him in.

Cammalleri is 34 years old. You aren't going to get Shattenkirk or Fowler for him even if NJ retained 100% of his salary.

John Quenneville will most likely be a very similar player to Adam Henrique. And that is great news for New Jersey.

We'll see about that. Either way, you guys are all assuming Shattenkirk would sign an extension anyway when he could just wait the year out and force team's into a bidding war. And if his agent has any degree of competence, he would realize Jersey would be one of those teams in the bidding war in desperate need of a 40+ point dman. The Devils could give him 7 per and not blink. Not saying they will.

So, what is preventing Shattenkirk from just waiting until UFA so he can get the most $$$$? Especially considering this will be his last contract in his prime.

If a team is willing to meet the extension asking price that his agent is asking for, then there is no downside to locking it in now. What if he tears his ACL on opening night, he'd lose quite a bit of money.

He's not signing at a discount on an extension, teams have the motivation to get him locked in before he hits the open market.

That's most likely not wrong, at all.[/B] Trade history doesn't exactly lend you any reason to believe that a deal of Cammalleri for Shattenkirk/Fowler is remotely realistic.

OK your right Cams for free
And what does trade history have to do with a single damn thing
History that Ana/NJ have never traded-Wrong
If we were talking NYR/NJD I would concede trade history and even now I'm not sure if Shero thought it would help he wouldn't do it

Again, is it likely, probs not. But Ana is looking at guys like Huddler who will want $4-5M per, might get him for a season or two but that's 2x Cams (retained). Worst case if Ana was unhappy expose him at LV exp draft. So your getting your guy earlier than the TDL

Like to see your source on that, because as far as I know we haven't shown interest in him at all. Especially not at that price.

No, I mean all of trade history. Not just two teams. Look at any trade in the last decade where a player Cammy's age was traded for guys like Shattenkirk/Fowler. It has to do with a lot, because that kind of history is what tells you about the market we're discussing. GMs aren't just rolling the dice and re-invent the price for players every day.

Again, is it likely, probs not. But Ana is looking at guys like Huddler who will want $4-5M per, might get him for a season or two but that's 2x Cams (retained).
The only reason we could possibly want Hudler is because he's a free agent. The Ducks certainly wouldn't think about trading Fowler for him. Getting cap space from a Fowler trade is a nice by-product, but it's not imperative over actually getting adequate value for Fowler.

Honestly curious: since you Blues' fans seem to think sign and trades frequently happen with sizable contracts in a UFA year, can you give me some examples?

Naturally I 'll reply with the many more UFAs who played out the year and....went to UFA, but I am curious about the sign and trade examples.

If UFAs had the type of value you are alluding to, every single team would trade their impending UFAs every single year.

If he didn't then St. Louis would have already traded him. They aren't desperate to move him and have shown that they won't move pieces for lesser value just because they may lose them as free agents. When a team is in "win now" mode, losing guys to free agency is more likely than trading them for lesser value just to prevent getting nothing for them down the road.

What you fail to see here is that St. Louis has no need to move him today. Even if they decide they will part with him at free agency, he will get a good package of picks and prospects at next years trade deadline, so why trade him today if the price isn't right?
