The fact that a judge granted Kane sole custody of his 1 year old daughter is quite surprising. Maybe being a Dad will change him.

Not at all considering his wife was ordered by a judge to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether she would be allowed have "professionally supervised visits" with her daughter.

Nothing. Or if you want to get rid of Kerfoot we could take him. Either way, Sharks don't see him ever playing for them again, so any way to get out of the majority of his contract the better
Kerfoot has been playing quite good.

So Sharks are just looking to unload him for anything at 50%?

Basically that's what it seems like at least. Maybe they're trying to finagle the percentage down to take a player back that the other team doesn't find useful. That's what I assume at least. Or they're trying to broker a 3-way, but Arizona or Detroit are probably the only takers for that sort of thing, and Arizona needs to keep a retained salary slot for trading Kessel later this season.

How's Ritchie doing?

Ritchie's been underwhelming for sure. Better as of late. He had a little 8 game streak where he had something like 6 points.

He's not consistent with using his body. When he does, he's powerful. Problem is, it isn't consistent.

Yeah probably. Maybe doug is hoping for some value and thats why its not done, who really knows.
Obviously there are a ton of documented off ice issues.

What's the deal in house? It was reported that the Sharks players don't want him around. Is it because (rightfully so) they disagree with decisions he's made in his personal life? Or is he just a shit guy to be around at the rink as well?

Hard for us to say. I would guess both.

Sounded more like his off ice issues were bleeding into the locker room and the staff did an absolute shit job of holding him accountable which snowballed into a shit locker room.

Speculation on my part, but I think it's a bit of both.

He's generally liked as a person to the guys. He gets along with most guys well. That said, he does shit like stay out partying, showing up late, etc. which can rub guys the wrong way.

It’s also a bit of a shit move to a) ignore the rules around COVID while everyone else has to deal with them and for those who are serious about it b) endanger your teammates by lying about being vaccinated.

he’s a piece of shit that should be traded whenever possible IMO. The team has been better without him, significantly.

But Buffalo could be a catalyst in a trade.
For example San Jose trades Kane with 50% retention to the Sabres for Kyle Okposo and they eat another 50% so the receiving team gets him at 1,75.
I know the Sabres don't like to retain or they would have done so with Eichel, but it might work, especially if they receive a sweetener.
They also might retain less than 50%, say just a million which wouldn't hurt much and many teams could take on Kane's cap hit and salary more easily.
That would mean more teams interested and therefore the price would increase.

Why would SJ want Kyle Okposo?

Always some dumb GM who thinks they can fix a guy like Kane and end up looking like a genius. People actually think a locker room or leadership can “keep him in check” or “straighten him out.” Have fun with that.

It would be an embarrassment for the league if he got traded to a team and won a cup...
Considering that if that scenario happened, it would still only be at least the 2nd worst hockey story to happen so far in the 2021-22 season... the NHL should be reflecting a lot. But they won't be.

Why would Kane agree to go to Buffalo?
Supposedly Buffalo, Winnipeg, and Tampa Bay were his 3 team trade list. Likely strategic as he knows there's no way Buffalo or Winnipeg want him back and it's unlikely TB could fit him into their cap even if they wanted to without losing assets they would prefer to keep.

At this point, you really have to question how strictly he will follow his 3 team trade list... I mean, if someone would actually let him play in the NHL at this point, be grateful and accept the trade, or he'll just end up in the AHL for years, or a mutual contract termination. To insist on such a narrow list of teams, is career suicide... though one could argue he has expertise in that already.

Guessing that was his list at the beginning of the season. Now that he's been demoted to the AHL and sees limited NHL options I'm sure he'll be much more open to most teams. Who knows though, maybe he doesn't care as long as he gets his money.
