Post-Game Talk: Sharks win 3-2 in OT! Down 2-1 in the series

So I'm beating a dead horse here, but I still cant believe how brutal the linesmen were to us last night. I'm not usually a ref basher, and I personally think the reffing from the actual referees has been fair this series, but it seemed that last night every single tie went to the Penguins on icing calls, regardless if they were attacking or defending.

That said, I suppose Sharks fans have finally learned what icing is after years of those awful "what is icing" commercials, cause they were really letting the linesmen have it

It was absurd how many pucks were fired from the Pens D-zone only to be waived off. Happened in Pittsburgh too.

Was at the game so haven't read this thread nor the actual GDT.

Did the crowd sound loud on TV? I imagine it must have.
When Donskoi scored that was by far the loudest I've ever heard and it lasted well over a few months (past the 3 stars of the game).

Those few minutes after the GWG were sheer joy. Hugged and high-fived so many people around me lol.

That was probably the most exciting game I've been to at the Tank. This is why I've had season tickets for a few years even though I live out of the area. So worth it! I just wanted to high five and hug everyone around me after Donskoi's goal. It was my birthday too, so a great gift from the Sharks. I've waited a long time for them to be playing around my b-day, let alone on a milestone one (hint, there's a zero in there).

Now, if they could only stop putting Polak and Dillon on the ice so often, I'd be really happy.

I actually don't mind playing the Polak-Dillon pairing on the Malkin line. They've contained Malkin for the most part (I think it's because Polak has seen Malkin a lot in his Toronto days). But yeah, they really aren't suited to play against the other 3 lines.

I can accept the HBK line killing us with speed. However the vets (mostly Pavelski and Burns) need to get more SOGs.

(Skipped to last page.)

I don't care if this has been posted previously, but the Finnish call of Donskoi's goal just needs to be heard (again).

Awesome!

Dillon polak were kept away from hbk all night almost. Heavily matched against Malkin.

Which works well for them but going back to Pittsburgh, they have to split them up.

Might be better off taking 7 d lol.

It's tough to split up d pairings. It's not like moving a forward around.

I'd maybe just double burns with each as needed. Shelter them in the ozone. Limit their shift time etc.

I didn't look at the GDT but was anyone talking about Crosby's play on Vlasic in the 1st? I thought that was a really sneaky dirty play. For as much flak as Thornton received for hitting the helmet off Crosby I thought taking a player down by twisting his ankles with your feet is a lot more dirt.

Yeah, the only time at home they should be on the ice against the HBK line or Crosby's line is if it's because of an icing. I am not sure what you do in Pittsburgh without last change, though. Just try to shelter them as much as possible, I guess,

Crosby is always the victim.

Seven D isn't going to help when DeMelo is not likely to be any better of an option on the ice than Dillon or Polak. They only have two real practical options. Go top four for the whole game except for maybe any PK shifts or split Vlasic and Braun to help cover for Dillon and Polak. At least with the split option, you have a good puck-mover on the backend every shift. You can switch it back after two periods or if the team gets a multi-goal lead but without last change, you can't risk having Dillon-Polak exploited as a pairing like it has been in Pittsburgh.

They mentioned it briefly on the NHL Network breakdown last night, saying they were "lucky nobody got hurt there" though they didn't directly call out Crosby.

There is literally no worse option than Dillon-Polak. I'd bring Demelo into the lineup 10 times out of 10 even if he just sits on the bench because it means they cant put Dillon-Polak on the ice

That's kind of disturbing because knee's and ankles are just as off limits as head injuries. You can totally ruin a guys' career. And yes, lucky Vlasic didn't seem hurt. Sucks that you hear about all the "dirty" stuff Sharks do but never Crosby.

I take it they also didn't mention that Hertl was crosschecked in game 2, which could lead to why he is out?

Dillon-Polak is an adventure. They sit there with the puck on their stick ready to make a clean breakout pass.... ****... passed it right to a Penguin player in the slot.

The pro pens narrative in virtually all non SJ media is disgusting thus far. Refuse to give credit at all.

Sharks cash in one a few of those many posts and it's a 3-0 series in SJ's favor. Hopefully all this bs gives them some more locker room board material.

I was listening to the hockey channel hosts on Sirius last night and it was hilarious. They were talking about how lucky the Sharks goals were and that the shots weren't really that dangerous but for Murray misplaying them - like it was an affront to the sport of hockey that the Sharks won the game. It's like they did not notice that Polak knee'd in a puck on a shot that probably wasn't even on net for the Pen's first and it was as likely Burns as Hornquist that tipped in the second PIT goal. Ridiculous.

I like the whole Us against them mentality it sounds like. The Sharks are the underdogs, and the people around here are happy. I'm loving this, and I'm even loving that the Sharks won't get swept if Pittsburgh does end up winning the series.

Well, according to the main boards, the pens are the underdogs:laugh:

i saw that and immediately thought wow vlasic didn't take issue with that? that was the same play polak tried to kill jaskin for

Pens fan coming in peace. Killer win last night. Series has been great so far.

Quick question, I want to go to the game in San Jose. Is 208 a good section to watch as a Pens fan? I know the Sharks shoot twice on the end, but will I be able to see the rink pretty well?

Yea you can see pretty much anything in any section. it's not like Barclays ;)

My one piece of advice is that you don't lean forward when in the upper deck. It starts a chain reaction and gets the ushers on you pretty quickly.

Other than that you should have a good time (although there are drunken idiots in every arena). I think I'll be in Section 208 for Mondays game so if I give you a good ribbing (if we win), don't take it personally ;)

I asked a Pens to please lean back. He seemed quite perturbed and immediately texted someone about how mean I was. The person next to him explained the situation and the Sharks annoucement about leaning forward came a few minutes later.

Do you think it was worth it for what you paid?

Not questioning your decision, just genuinely curious here. I went back and forth on spending $600+ for a ticket and ultimately decided to just put on a jersey and watch the game at the Brit. I had a ton of fun because there had to be at least 200 people in there. So I left feeling like it was a good decision to save my money for a potential game 6. But I could imagine given how that game ended, it may have been worth it even if $600+ was borderline sell your kidney type money for a lot of folks

Yeah, we drove down from Petaluma and watched the game at The Brit. They had playoff pricing in full effect too. The wife even got kicked out! Fortunately that occurred after the game ended. It was pretty awesome.
