Confirmed with Link: Sharks trade Eklund, Halttunen and Svoboda to Ottawa for 9th overall.

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Sharks twitter, like all twitter, is a cesspool of idiocracy.

I bet he's open to it but I also bet he's fine taking Stenberg now.
My feelings as well. I just feel like the offers coming in got a lot better because there is a more viable threat that Grier just takes him. I could see angling for a D and Belchetz or something if Grier feels like he needs more size. Lots of options available though and a prudent move that DW never would’ve made.

I think you nailed it, you look at the big picture we lucked into a situation where we could upgrade a player, even if it's one that I really like, and still get roughly the same pick you were originally expecting. It's really nice work from Grier in my opinion.

Going to miss Eklund, but at least he gets to go play with a friend
i’m happy for Eklund. He always seemed like a black sheep and trade bait for us - with that bridge contract it seemed inevitable. Now he gets to go back to playing with his best friend which should soften the blow. I think he has a really good year.

Just my opinion but I had this belief Eklund was pretty pissed off with how this team treated him. Buried him in the AHL longer than necessary to extend the ELC. I think he thought he was above it. Now we’re in a situation where our future core of Mack, Misa, Smith, Dick, and Igor are all the same age plus likely Stenberg and whoever they draft on D at 9.

I see the logic - we traded a small skilled forward with good compete and poor defense to a small forward with high IQ who plays with his body and cares about defense. Stenberg seems like he’ll be a more complete player who is harder to play against in the playoffs and we can staple his quick decision making and compete with Macklin and make a monster combo. Eklund seemed to be developing chemistry with Misa but we already have that with Chernyshov.

Stenberg fits the timeline now and Eklund did not with a risk he may have wanted out or blackmail us into paying him big bucks before we know what we have with the other non-Macklin young guys. Grier is giving the guys a chance to make the playoffs but they have to earn it. He’s not rushing it.

I wonder if Calgary is taking whatever forward is left at 6 from McKenna/Stenberg/Malhotra/Bjork, now that they traded for Nemec. But there is a real chance that all 4 are gone. I wonder if that pick is a target should the 4 forwards go.

Seattle also has stupid management, maybe that's a target too.

I don't think Verhoeff is gonna be there at 9, and It seems like he's a Grier Guy

I wonder if 9OA + 27OA + Musty is enough to get 4OA. Chicago knows we're picking Stenberg at 2OA and Vancouver is picking Malhotra so they trade down to get Belchetz and a top 6 forward prospect in Musty while we get both Stenberg and Reid.

Can’t be a coincidence that this trade went down right after the Nemec deal right?

Grier must be confident Calgary is taking Bjorck which guarantees one of the top 5 D falling to 9.

If Toronto goes Stenberg 1OA....

I think Grier might be able to finagle one of them young RD from Chicago at the table right then... hot iron, Bedard's cousin...

But right now GMMG needs to have Macklin texting to Bedard, just in case TOR picks Stenberg...
"TOR might take Stenberg, you should definitely remind Davidson about how you're related... Otherwise, I'll tell him you said hi at the prospect scrimmage."

Mike be workin' them phones..
