Confirmed with Link: Sharks trade 20th pick to Sabres for 27th and D Michael Kesselring (RFA)

  • Congrats to our latest Sportsbook winners - GOLD MEDAL kihei, SILVER MEDAL fish7 and BRONZE MEDAL Sammy Kat - new tournament begins today 6/15
He's not signed yet. Technically just traded for his RFA rights. (Or to be more precise, he has no contract from July 1 onwards...yet...)

And he is arbitration eligible if he goes that route and one year from UFA if he takes a 1-year settlement. (Edit - as in he would be UFA next year.) I would assume Grier already has an idea of what he's willing to pay on something longer than a year or two. I'm curious to see how that works out as AFP had a projection for 3x$4.2M AAV which if he plays 2nd pairing minutes is a nice deal.

What if we trade for Rielly, and then sacrifice one of our lesser prospects to the gods to revitalize Rielly? Sort of like that alien healing/execution machine from Babylon 5?

Spence is the next bet. His advanced metrics are outstanding. Top 5% WAR D player (1.79). he's a perfect target for Grier. hes the right age, RH, can score, and not too expensive to acquire or to resign.

I am also still kinda prayin' for a more established #1, but I am ready to be disappointed.

Hamilton is not waiving. His wife is in fashion/influencer shit in NYC.

Hronek is not likely waiving. He's very possibly their future captain and doesn't want to leave.

Fox is not waiving to come to SJ.

Trouba isn't likely. He didn't want to come here before.

Stanley and Raddysh are not likely. They do feel closer to Grier players. Someone else is going to give them more term and AAV than Grier is likely to want to give... But they are at least more possible than the NMC guys.

Rielly is very possible. Nurse is very possible. Maybe Peeke is possible as people have been saying.

Alright: heres the next blockbuster. Sharks sign Jamie Oleksiak to a 2 year, 5M per and Desi at 2 years, 3M per, so that we can have a D pair of two 6'7 pillars on the PK to go with 6'5, kesselring, 6'4 shak, 6'3 Dick. Ginormous D corps.

Orlov- Kesselring
Oleksiak - Desharnais
Dick - Mukh
Cagnoni as the PP QB specialist/ injury fill in.

Either that or Trade #2+27+Cagnoni to WPG for 8+Morrissey.

Sharks will still very likely get one of the big D (Smits, Carels, Voerhoff, or Reid), and they get a super stud D whose still only 31 and signed ridiculously cheaply. Not likely, but a man can dream ;-)

I cannot imagine walking away from the first round of the draft with Voerhoff, Morrissey, and Kesselring. Wow, that would be fun

Spencer + 32 for 27? Ottawa probably wants more, right?

yeah, Spence has more value than Kesselring. His Corsi numbers are phenomenal. However, 27+62 for Spence and 32 is not impossible. 27 vs. 32 is a mid 3rd rounder value, so that would be a late 2nd and mid 3rd equivalent. A bit more than what Ottawa paid to get him. Sharks might have to add a little sweetener like Lund or Havelid, but the price would not be exorbitantly high.

Imagine getting the call that you're gonna play with Mack

Not bad at all. Just imagining:

Orlov-Kesselring
Muk-Spence
Dickinson-xxx

That would be nice.

You'd think Spence would have more value, but NHL GMs are stupid and just see 5'11" so he probably won't go for as much as one would imagine.

Another guy like that is 5'11'' Sean Walker, who we just saw in the playoffs is a guy competes hard offensively and defensively, a spark plug player. Yet he's been bounced around from LA to Philly to Col to Carolina. And his contract only pays him 3.6M AAV. Funny thing is, Spence also came up in the Kings system (just like Faber, Mcnabb, Gavrikov). It might be a good trend to acquire dmen that the Kings developed.

Guys, we have to stop posting these lineups with Kesselring as our top pairing RD.

I would expect him to take Desi's place with a chance to move up to second pairing as the season goes on. Which is a solid improvement and all, but let's not get crazy. If Kesselring is on our top pairing come fall, we had a very very bad offseason.

Ottawa's 32 cannot be traded.
Ahhh, good catch. I missed that... Complicates things somewhat.

I dunno if col 2nd and Florida 4th is enough. Might require trading pick 27. How about #27+Lund for Spence and Zetterlund? I would love to bring Fabian back :)

Exactly! I am actually a general Hodge fan, and I like many of his takes. But the speed at which he labels every sub 6'0 Dman with skill as a "Smurf Offenseman" no matter what flies in the face of a lot of very good 5'10 and 5'11 Defensemen. Walker, Hutson, Hughes, Fox to name a few. Gostisbehere played a huge role for carolina too. 5"11 is not that short. 5'8 or 5'9 is pretty short. Only spurgeon crushes it that small. But even makar is around 5'11 (maybe 6') and under 190 lbs. Sydney Crosby is 5'11 for god's sake.

Spence's size does not worry me at all. 5'11, 190 is NHL sized, and he's not a Smurf offenseman. His defensive metrics are excellent.

Spence strikes me as the next possible Adam Fox. He just needs his chance to shine.

This would be the closest lineup to what we were playing at the end of last season:

Orlov-Muk
Dick-Spence
Cagnoni-Kesselring

Why’s that? I’d be a bit surprised if he wasn’t pencilled in on the second pair right now.

Orlov-someone
Mukh-Kesselring
Dickinson-Desharnais
