So I keep seeing the Dickinson goal highlights but to anyone who's watched more of him, how has he looked otherwise?
I watched the game, and frankly, possible his defense was better than his offense that game. (Although, he was around the net for one of the goals against, I didn't get a good look at if he made a mistake or not.)

I think the best way to describe the game was, he looked like an uncle playing with the kids, who wanted the kids to have fun, but cared a bit too much about winning.

For most of the game, he was positioned extremely conservatively in the offensive zone, and was just supporting the play letting his teammates play around, until he saw the occasional chance to style on everyone, and do something flashy, almost as if for fun to show off, but he was choosing his spots very well.

Then, in the defensive zone, he just looked like he was refusing to let the other team do anything. He was immediately on the puck every time they got in the offensive zone, separating the man from puck, and getting it out of the zone or controlling it safely to teammates if possible. He really just looked like an adult against kids, trying to maximize his kids offensive zone time.

Sounds great! I love the very specific description in the 2nd paragraph:laugh:

Haven't been able to watch as many Knights games lately as I'd like to given that I've been travelling quite a bit, but my view is that at the beginning of the year he was trying to do way too much and was sacrificing defense for offense at an alarming frequency (especially before Bonk/Barkey/Cowan came back from NHL camps), but now he's settled down iny last few viewings and has been excellent defensively in addition to maintaining his offense. Still has some minor consistency issues but the good has been extremely good lately. Not perfect, but I'm encouraged.

FWIW, I think he been better playing next to Brzustewicz and being the responsible rock next to the young kid than he was earlier in the season next to Bonk when he was trying to be the riverboat gambler. The former is what I want him to be at the NHL level. Not to say he doesn't have some NHL-level offensive skill but he's not so skilled that you want to give him free reign to do whatever he wants a la Hughes/Makar/Karlsson/Dahlin.

Also to note, the OHL seems (in my anecdotal viewings) to have a few really good teams and a lot of really mediocre teams. So Dickinson's games against Windsor, Oshawa, Saginaw, Kitchener, Erie, etc. are more informative than him beating up on North Bay.

Still can’t believe we got Dickinson.
I still can't belive the Flames had a chance to draft him and took Zayne Parekh instead.

He started off a little slow in the first few games but hes now playing fantastic. Every game I watch he's the best player on the ice and that includes Easton Cowan. The kid is amazing.

This makes me very happy to hear. We desperately need him to reach his potential…

Roberts is -2 through half a period as the Prince George Cougars have scored 3 goals on 4 shots against the Giants.

Ruh-roh.

Also this is the first game of a back-to-back in PG this weekend as they'll get shelled tonight and then have to go right back against the Cougars tomorrow afternoon.

EDIT: And he just took a dumb boarding penalty.

EDIT 2: Now -3 (though I think it might actually be -4 and the stats page just hasn't updated yet) for the game while the Giants are getting thumped 7-1.

He will but don't expect a Cale Makar. But expect a well balanced defenseman. He's not going to wind his way through players.... he has great vision and a great shot but he's just as good or better on the D side. He's the best D I've seen on the Knights and the second best young D I've seen since Aaron Ekblad.

Pffftt I'm not expecting something outrageous like the next Cale Makar. I'm just expecting the next Chris Pronger.

That’s high praise! A few users mentioned this but my hope isn’t Makar, it’s prime Brent Burns with maybe less offensive but more defense… a boy can dream.

I know I am going to jinx it, going into the third period, but maybe someone who has more experience with evaluating prospects can explain what I am seeing.

Everytime someone skates down the ice in transition, 1v1 or partial 2v1 along the boards against Cagnoni, it seems like it is a guaranteed turnover. He either rubs them out along the boards and takes the puck or blocks it in his skates as they try to cut back, and sends it the other way. He did it 3 or 4 times that last period (which sort of speaks to the teams issues, outshot 36-15 through 2) and I must have seen it over a dozen times this season.

Am I just noticing it more than usual because I am watching him more closely? Is this translatable to the NHL? I assume he couldn't do it to McDavid everytime, but is he just outclassing the AHL players that much as a defensive defensemen?

What is going on here?
