Niemi is actually up there in wins because he plays more than just about any other goalie

Which is important.

Personally, when it comes to these kinds of awards, my bias is to wins. Because that is the point of the whole thing, to win.

When comparing goalies between teams, I still put wins at the forefront when it comes to awards. Save percentage, is, in a way, looking at "advanced statistics".

Just like when we might say that forward A, who got unlucky and scored 40 points is "better" than player B who lucky and scored 60 points. Still doesn't change the fact that for that one season, player B scored 60 points while player A only got 40.

I hope that makes sense.

He was too busy talking about Niemi sucking ass until the last 6 games... Not even joking.

He was probably better the start of the year than today. All of those shootout wins and losses we currently have could have and should have been straight up regulation losses if not for Niemi and his spectacular play.

Would be very cool to see him even nominated though.

Keep in mind that it's the GMs who vote on the Vezina though, and not the "writers" who may very well not even watch a game in the season.

On the fourth goal though, it says assists are from Gomez and Havlat. However, didn't Burns slap it, Havlat shot it and it went of Backstrom, and then Galiardi tipped it in, right?

Also, I have lost a little respect for Vlasic. Feisty Pickles is one thing, Dirty Pickles is another.

Jezus that aint dirty... Seems that a few here are a little squeamish about what really goes on at ice level. The Pickle has to stand up for himself.If he gets a suspension for it it will carry more weight and he will get a rep as someone who's not to be messed with. Price of doing business.

As for Heater, maybe he wouldn't have hurt himself if he wasn't carrying so much extra weight around. He should do some cardio and eat a carrot once in a while...

Notice how chippiness is inversely correlated to winning.

It certainly does when it comes to winning the cup. Anahiem, CHicago, boston...etc, etc and so forth. Very rare for a team that isn't chippy to carry the big shiny trophy. Even detroit and pit had that element to their game.
