Niemi is actually up there in wins because he plays more than just about any other goalie
Which is important.
Personally, when it comes to these kinds of awards, my bias is to wins. Because that is the point of the whole thing, to win.
When comparing goalies between teams, I still put wins at the forefront when it comes to awards. Save percentage, is, in a way, looking at "advanced statistics".
Just like when we might say that forward A, who got unlucky and scored 40 points is "better" than player B who lucky and scored 60 points. Still doesn't change the fact that for that one season, player B scored 60 points while player A only got 40.
