Red Wings trade Walman, draft pick to SharksWe know that the Wings were going to be in a cap crunch, and a move to help bring relief was likely on the cards, but I don’t think anyone expected them to shed cap like this. Walman, despite his injuries, was Detroit’s second-best defenseman when healthy. I don’t really need to explain it much — he and Seider, as a pair, played the toughest minutes the NHL had to offer last season...
I am very curious at the thought process behind this move. Walman was loved by fans, teammates, and presumably coaching. Unless there is huge trade news on the horizon, it’s impossible to make sense out of this move… At least for me.
Bottom Line: There is no way Detroit needed to spend a second-round pick to move Walman.
is it a mystery? i thought we would be on his NTC list.I can only assume the mystery of why we got a 2nd rounder with Walman cancels out the mystery of why we got nothing for taking on Goodrow's contract.
I think Stamkos makes sense there with the Yzerman connection. We can guarantee Yzerman will spend money on 7/1 because he’s done it every year. They have more cap space than we do post trade. If he's being dumped to clear cap, it's because they have multiple big-ticket moves they're planning to make.
Almost makes him even on the +\- scaleNow this is an excellent move. Exactly what should’ve happened to take on Goodrow.
+1 for Grier in my books here
I’m not there yet, but I’m hoping he keeps making more moves like this oneAlmost makes him even on the +\- scale
Personally, I think it’s even. I would have taken 53rd overall with Goodrow and Walman for free happily. I still don’t like the shenanigans with the waiver claim but value wise I’m content.Almost makes him even on the +\- scale
Walman must have requested a trade to SJ. Macklin is bringin' the boys to the yard folks!
Curious what the future considerations will be, was it just a cap dump or is something bigger brewing for draft dayI’m not there yet, but I’m hoping he keeps making more moves like this one
Hopefully nothing. I’d like to have this one nice trade we can’t complain aboutCurious what the future considerations will be, was it just a cap dump or is something bigger brewing for draft day
Future considerations are never anything meaningful. It’s a polite way of saying free while staying within league rules. Maybe we swap 7th rounders in the future but it’s nothing more than that.Curious what the future considerations will be, was it just a cap dump or is something bigger brewing for draft day
I don’t know enough about Walman is he a Detroit equivalent of Ferraro? I wonder if this means Grier will package 14th and 33rd to move up to the 5-8 range in the firstPersonally, I think it’s even. Not possible it could be perfect and one person will find fault with itHopefully nothing. I’d like to have this one nice trade we can’t complain about
Not in my opinion. I think he’s a legit middle-pairing guy, has some offense to him, certainly can be a bit chaotic but overall a good player.I don’t know enough about Walman is he a Detroit equivalent of Ferraro? Honestly, who knows.... if there was a deal to be made between NYR and Det, figure they would announce it at the same time. But, who knows... No one can figure out why Walman needs a 2nd attached to him to get traded....I can only assume the mystery of why we got a 2nd rounder with Walman cancels out the mystery of why we got nothing for taking on Goodrow's contract.
That would be rebuilding team masterclass by MG. I believe it's very possible.I’m also expecting this same trade structure for Pageau sometime this week as well.
Pageau + 54th overall for Future Considerations.
