The dude was healthy scratched for 1 game that was the second of a back to back. Nothing to see here.

Yeah.
If that's the case(less than 10 minutes one game, scratched the other) ten or twenty games into the season you could talk about it.
Right now it was just the start of the season and two games.

BTW: It could also be that the team actually has sending him back in mind but wants to initiate a trade for him to another team than Kingston.

Or they just wanted geekie to get some playing time earily and HAS NOTHING to do with wright.

Also francis' tone would be much different if there was a great chance of him going back to the OHL.

A firnedly reminder for people regarding wright from the GM from that The Athletic article.

“I don’t want to draw a line in the sand, but I would think he’s with us for the year,” Francis said. “It’s just a matter of how things go and managing it. … But I think he’ll be fine. He’s fit right in. He does a lot of good things.”

I have not been a fan of playing Wright on the 4th line with limited minutes, but this is quite an overreaction. Not overwhelming Wright by sitting him on the team's first back-to-back, while on the road, is fine.

I get the feeling, for better or worse, the team has decided that Wright is staying up this year. If that is the case, he can be eased into his role through the first quarter of the season. Find better matchups during home games. Also, identify what this team looks like before forcing Wright into a spot that hurts his development even more. Francis is more invested in Wright's success than the fans are so I am pretty sure he has a plan in place.

I am not opposed to sending him back to Juniors after 9 games but again my concern is simply that Kingston is not a good team for him to develop more in. Even the Kingston fans who think Wright should come back to Juniors generally agree that Kingston is not the best team for him.
Kingston will trade him at the deadline (at the end of the WJC), or maybe even earlier. At most he would play about 10 games in Kingston before being dealt to a contender, so no need to worry about him not developing in the O.

Can an NHL team owning the rights to a player offer money for say "Kingston" to trade their player?

I wouldn't think so because it sounds like tampering to me.

Based on the way I understand though, most junior teams and NHL teams have very amicable relationships and the junior teams do try to accommodate most requests coming from the NHL team.

They would just say we think it is in his best interest if you move him. Kingston doesn’t want to tick off an NHL team and have the rep of not getting along with an NHL team. Plus, I’m sure they are quite aware that Shane may not want to go back (if in fact that rumour is true).

Kingston would gladly take the bounty from the trade rather than Seattle not sending him back, and get nothing. A trade makes everyone a winner.

I think you’re over reacting here. Getting worked up over his play time is silly. Let the professionals do their job because I’m going to bet they know slightly a little bit more than we do when it comes to prospect management.
The team sucks and will not make playoffs. Why not give him 12-14 mins? 6 mins and healthy scratch, the next game, is an absolute joke.

You have a positive attitude for 2 games into the season. Keep up the good work.

Scratched again?? What is Hakstol going?! The kid has barely played in 2 years and they scratch him in back to back games….

He’s played 70 games in just over 2 years.

What would wright have gained from playing in yesterdays as kick loss by vegas?

I actually agreed with the healthy scratch against vegas.

I assume not , but since Wright was in the OHL, there's now way that he could be moved to the WHL to play closer to Seattle?

I want him to play and develop but not sure if Carolina is the right opponent to let him settle back in against after almost a week away from game situations. They're so f***ing fast.

32 Thoughts podcast suggested that while he may stick with the team all season, he'd be allowed and encouraged to leave for World Juniors to play big minutes in meaningful games.

I was thinking about this, but honestly, this is the NHL. We were the 3rd worst team in the league last season and while we are better this season, hard to say how much. Almost every opponent we play is likely to be better than us.

Just get Wright game time. Even when he screws up, he will get a chance to show that he is learning from it. That is really what his development is all about.

Since the main board is a cesspool after one game of his, wanted to get more insight here.

How is he doing? He must be doing good enough if he's up with the main squad. Personally I think there 95% of people in his threads posting doom-and-gloom when it's only been one game..

I agree. If he's on the roster then he should play most of the games. There's nothing you can do to protect him from taking his lumps. It's going to be a rough go, and it's either that or send him down.

He looked pretty good in the pre-season and improved with every game. Certainly looked like he had worked on his conditioning in the off-season and looked to be skating quicker. I believe Francis feels confident keeping him up because he expects that Wright will adapt quicker because of his high hockey IQ.

The first game was barely enough sample size because he got only 6 minutes of ice time.

I didn't understand why Hackstol was limiting his minutes so much and scratched him the past two games but maybe he sees something I don't. I don't think it's a Caufield/Ducharme thing but it's a bit confusing. Haven't seen him do anything to hold him back yet. Maybe he just liked Geekie more? Either way tonight will be interesting.

I had a completely original thought about this on my commute today. What if he's trying to replicate an NCAA transition to NHL schedule? Get him 34 games in the time of the regular NCAA season, then a handful more to replicate the NCAA playoffs (during that time), then go all in over the last 10 games. In the end he'd end up playing like 50-55 games I figure, similarly to what Beniers played last year (54 games) between Michigan, the Olympics and the Kraken.

Seems like a pretty decent idea to mimic that schedule for a young kid, even though he's used to playing more in the OHL. I'd hope those remaining games would have him getting 12-14 minutes per game though, not 6.
