hope they take their time with his recovery. Dude is only 20, hoping he'll be the C to solve our 2nd line problems is setting ourselves up for failure. Take time with him, but acquire a 2c in the mean time because depth is something we're sorely lacking.

We are lacking a top #1 center; not depth.

I'd say both, but having two centres that are mid tier 2C's is better then a 2c in Norris, 3C in Tierney and a bunch of unproven guys everywhere else. If we're to be competitive, any upgrade at C (another 1 or 2C has to happen asap) unless we just gambling on Pinto (and eventually Norris) not hurting their backs from carrying us

Agreed, but that doesnt mean that a 3C doesnt help, too.

No for sure.

I was just chiming in on the "do we need center depth more or do we need a #1 c"

I feel like we already have a 2C
I feel like we already have a 3C
I feel like we already have a 4C

What we don't have is a 1C. It's not the depth centers that we're lacking, it's the #1 center that goes at the top that we're missing and that only.

But sure, adding a 3C helps in the fact we don't have to play two 4C or a 5C in the lineup. But that's a half assed fix. Can't eventually win with half assed solutions.

What is the definition of a #1C? Are we talking about a game breaking, star C or a legit #1C in the league?

Josh Norris has the following rankings for C in the NHL:

- 31st in points
- 11th in goals

After the superstars at the top the PPG quickly gets close 1.00 so he isn't far off from climbing the overall scoring chart and while some above and below won't maintain their current level almost all ranked above him are well established, veteran players in the NHL.

That said, he is ahead of Matthews, Pettersson, Hertl, Point, Bergeron, Larkin...

If he continues on his pace and finishes top 15 in C goals, top 30 in points (on a low scoring team) with positive defensive play then I think we can say we have a #1C and should expect him to improve for the next couple of seasons at minimum. Heck, I think he could improve his pace this year along and finish even higher.

Who knows what Pinto will do after his injury but if he mimics last season and ends up .60/PPG+ then to me that bodes very well also. It is always great to have more and better C but those top end guys are HARD to find/acquire and for my money we need to focus all our attention on upgrading our D...from 2nd pair RD to bottom pair as that would have the most significant impact on the team.

As JBECK5 says a #1 pushes everyone down to where they probably are going to be most effective:
-#1 center
-#2C Norris
-#3C Pinto
-#4C White/Tierney

In order to be a consistent playoff team and become a SC contender, we need 1 or more probably 2 players who can be in the top 15 scorers in the league.

Apparently it's because although staff did a full evaluation and he tricked them by saying he was fine.

His inability to take the faceoff or lift his arm wasn't a sign of injury.
I have injured my shoulder on multiple occasions. Its not hard to run a player through a range of motions to see what they can or cannot do before deciding if they can play. With a young player that is so important to the teams future someone dropped the ball very badly here.

Yep...I railed about it at the time but I guess we can't believe someone should have known and made the decision to keep him out.

Seemed incredibly obvious to me he should never have been put back on the ice.

This better not be a case of him needing surgery the first time but allowing him to push it to the offseason. I hate having players play through a major injury at half capacity when we aren't making the playoffs.

Would have, could have, should have. Whatever.

At this point you shut him down and get him the proper surgery no matter the time length.

In the mean time we will find out what kind of depth we don't have at center!

Pinto needs to come back stronger, more mature and better understanding of how not to push through injuries.

Man this guy has the compete level of a warrior , I hope a shoulder surgery and missing this season doesn’t lower his ceiling. The only positive is with a year of ELC already burned and missing this season he is going to negotiate his next contract with one season max of nhl experience could help the sens lock him up long term at a lower aav.

still hopeful he becomes our best centre

Has there been any talk of him getting surgery or are people just throwing that out there with nothing to back it up?

My guess is he passed the physicals.
I am surprised they brought him back with no practice and not really taking any contact.
I had a bad feeling about them bringing him back without any practice or contact drills. Was worried that he was only returning because so many players were missing due to Covid.

Give him the surgery and rehab time so it’s not career threatening. Pinto is a player. We are out of it this year again. Bring Pinto back fresh after he’s built himself back up.
And if we get a top pick there are Cs available to supplement him and Norris nicely.
