That’s some good hand/eye coordination right there… just don’t know what he’s doing in the crease when he’s supposed to be at the blue line lol

Well it was a powerplay, and it looks like he was supporting the team down low (maybe a dump-in before then?), then when he was heading back to the blue line he cut back when he saw his teammate walking in with the puck. Nice little play from Muk there

Played 18:22 last game and 19:17 the one before. Averaging over 16 mins of ice time per game. He's getting a lot of ice time, that's saying a lot for a 19 year old in the KHL.
Originally Muk got bumped up to the top pair when their 1D, Philip Larsen, got injured. The team was basically a lot of Larsen and then defense by committee when they started.

He was then paired with Larsen’s partner, Dinar Khafizullin, on the top pair when he first got more minutes in mid-September. Then Dinar got injured after three games w/ Muk and hasn’t played since 9/23.

They then reunited Muk with his original partner from the 3rd pair, Grigori Panin (the team’s 35 year old Captain), on the top line, while keeping their 2nd pair* intact.

Then, plot twist, Larsen, who had been out since 9/11, came back on 10/3 and Muk and Larsen are now paired on the top line. (Panin went back to the 3rd pair.) The nice part of him playing with Larsen is he’s a RHD, unlike Panin and Khafizullin.

Larson had brief stints in the NHL with the Stars, Oilers & Canucks and some might remember when Hall cranked his former teammate in 2016 (it was ruled a clean hit and he felt bad afterwards).

*(Mikhail Naumenkov & Pavel Koledov) if anyone is wondering.

Poor guy was out cold and getting hit by players entering the scrum lol.
Is Larson the puck mover / offensive guy with Muk stays home or the reverse? Or both kinda equal as far as who activates mostly ?

Larson’s reputation is that he’s an offensive defenseman who is ok at defense. Here’s the random description from Elite Prospects:

Larsen has average size, but other than that, he shows a rather all-around arsenal of skills. He is blessed with good speed, technical skills and very good hockey sense, which is his greatest quality. Really a smart player, that sees openings that many other players are unable to. He plays mature and appears to be relaxed and confident on the ice. Perhaps more noticeable offensively than defensively, but rather solid in his own end, despite having to work with the physical aspect of the game.

Larsen’s been uncharacteristically unproductive this season, with only 2 A in 10 games (0.20 PPG) after scoring 35 points (10G 25A) in 47 games last season (0.74 PPG).

The “second pairing” of Naumenkov and Koledov is likely better even strength, going by plus/minus differential. Larsen is probably a good partner for him though, a smart player can’t be a bad thing, and he’s playing a ton.

U20 KHL Scorers (PPG)
1. Marat Khusnutdinov 15 GP 3G 5A 8 points (0.53)
(Picked by the Wild with our 2020 2nd)
2. Matvei Michkov 10 GP 2G 1A 3 points (0.30)
(16 year old 2023 draft stud)
3. Shakir Muk 17 GP 3G 2A 5 points (0.29)

Since Shak gets playing time over there I don’t think it’s a problem if he wants to do another year in the KHL.

Now if he signs an unbreakable 2 or 3 year deal, that would be a little frustrating.

one more year would be good but 2 isn’t the worst thing. if he plays one more year we might have luke and shak, two rookies in our d and that’s not always the best. one more year to polish and coming over more fully developed isn’t terrible

I’m excited for Shak to come over but waiting another year probably makes since unless he was willing to go to the AHL. Our LD is full unless a trade is made this offseason.

Might not be possible with the glut we have on the left side but I want him in NA yesterday. He is far better off served learning the game on the small ice than he is on the big ice.

He's still WJC eligible. If he comes over at the end of next season he will be 21. His ELC will slide and that might be worthwhile by then. I agree in a perfect world I'd prefer he be in Utica starting next season but another year is not a big delay and hopefully he fills out and matures a bit more before he arrives.

Apparently his extension might have to be at least two years. Maybe an NHL opt out in the second year or maybe he just plans on spending two more seasons in the KHL. Also sounds like he’s not interested in playing in the AHL.

Two years wouldn't be terrible, as people above have alluded. We could bring in Hughes as a young rookie in 2023-2024, then Mukhamadullin in 2024-2025 as a slightly older one. Those years ought to be our prime hitting competitive years anyway - before everyone's off their ELC.

And the Russian factor rears its head. He won't play in the AHL so NJ will have to allow him his growing pains in the NHL. At that point I'd just as soon let him marinate for the two years.

That sucks that he cannot sign a one year KHL deal. Kind of odd that it is a rule that it has to be 2.
In an ideal world , Id like him to come to NA as soon as this KHL season is over.
Get him used to NA and maybe get some Comet games in this year and start fresh in the AHL next year.
Two more years in the KHL seems like maybe too long . Hopefully there is an out clause so he can leave after next year.
