Don't know if he's gonna post again for a while. He has to be pissed. It's hard to imagine this draft going much worse for us.

Wasn't at all disappointed with us not ending up with Sanderson.

Was a bit surprised to go Holtz over Rossi but at least then I can say that we do need more scorers than Playmakers.

Also liked the Mercer pick for Great value.

It's this pick that is the ultimate head-scratcher, especially when Perreault is there for the taking.

And he's STILL falling...The hell?

I hate the fact that there are people who are always upset and pissed and disappointed about everything the devils do that when something happens that other people don't like, certain posters take it upon themselves to try and act like everyone who doesn't like it is one of those type of people, or try to shoot them down as posters.

Welcome to the interwebz, I guess, but really says a lot. Everyone who didn't like the pick isn't someone who hates everything. It's okay to not to be sunshine and roses about every decision that is made. Some people put a lot of time and effort into formulating the opinions they are conveying and it just means shit to some people because you dare to have thoughts on your own.

Really? Because until last year Ty Smith was the ONLY defenseman we picked high and he's not a 'big' defenseman.

Well, if they had a 2nd round pick I would've expected this sort of pick there vs. at 20.

But after reading a bit more about this kid I don't mind this at all. Seems like he could have some upside, no issues with taking the chance if you believe in the potential.

Dug to find @StevenToddIves ranking of Shakir for LD in this draft, and he had him fifth:

Shakir Mukhamadullin, Salavat Ufa KHL hands down, the toughest kid for me to grade out in this entire draft. He’s 6’4 with excellent skates, an absolute bomb of a shot and a physical edge. But he’s also inconsistent in ways which I even have difficulty describing. I’ve seen him dominate one shift and then look lost the next. I also admit that it’s more difficult for me to watch Russian prospects as North American ones — I simply have not seen him play as much as Guhle or O’Rourke. I still believe that if this kid can put it all together, he has first-pairing upside. This is a huge thing to say about a kid who could conceivably fall into the 4th round. I’m going to rank him here and then bite my fingernails a lot.

I have so much respect for Steven and put a great deal of stock in his opinions. I know he is very high on Mercer. I believe he was intrigued by this player but not at 20. I think he will he less than thrilled the Devils went Holtz over Rossi. His logic, as was mine, is that this draft is deep with goal scoring wingers and the Devils could have gone that route at 18 and 20.

I’m increasingly agitated now that Drysdale was taken one spot ahead of us. If the Devils landed him, I would be surprised if the 20th pick wasn’t a forward. On the surface (we won’t know for sure), it looks to me like the Devils went need over BPA and that’s not a good idea.

I really hope I’m wrong and will be glad to eat crow.

Picking Mercer has no bearing on drafting for need. You can stay true to the order on your board - the point is that the order itself may not be based on BPA and that's what may end up biting us in the ass.

And that U19 points list that Mukhamadullin is climbing isn't exactly an impressive array of talent.

I'm not pissed or anything. Just starting to get a little suspicious based on our approach last year, picking up Bahl out of Arizona's system and now, Mukhamadullin.

There will always be a market for 6-foot-4 defensemen who can skate well, and Mukhamadullin certainly qualifies. The pGPS (prospect Graduation Probabilities System) system that Jeremy Davis developed tags with an 84 percent chance of making the show; it's the seventh-highest figure in this class. Mukhamadullin has a cannon for a one-timer, and he's not shy about using it. -EliteProspects 2020 NHL Draft Guide

We don't know what their BPA board looked like. Its clear that all teams boards at this point are very different from what mock drafts though as teams keep taking people "off the board"

For example, we apparently had Bratt way higher than we drafted him but knew he wasn't well known/regarded and would likely be available in the 6th round. Every team has wildly different draft lists, and there is some strategy there in trying to predict what other teams also think.

I'll say this for Shakir, I did know who he was before the draft, and I thought it would be great to grab a guy like that. I also didn't understand why he wasn't getting more hype as a teenager in the KHL. I hope he feeds me my words. I'm behind him 100% now.

A guy barely on some people’s lists for the draft went next but some still will act like mock draft lists are sacrosanct proof of value.

If they're valuing him that highly that they'd prefer him over someone else slightly worse and another player then that's a problem.

Or they thought he was much better than anyone else there. We just don’t know. I don’t love the pick on the face of it but I can’t imagine he NJ draft room is like the ESPN Y2K commercial.
