The whole "name is impossible to pronounce" thing is silly. It's maybe a bit initially intimidating-looking because of the length, but all of the letters do exactly what they look like they should do.

I think it has sounds (specifically the muk-ha) that are rare in English and that Daneyko will struggle with it if he ever has to say it. But I agree that it's not that hard.

I'm kind of curious of the origin of the name myself - it does not seem 'Russian' but more Middle Eastern. I know that region has a lot of Middle Eastern influence and Islam is mentioned as a major religion in Ufa. Vadim Sharifijanov was also from Ufa and that seems similarly influenced. Anyway, rambling.

Where was Nikolai Khabibulin from? Seems like the same origins.

You will surprise but Russia is a VEEEERY big country. There are many(many-many-many-many) different and not so different nations. And Bashkirians and Tatarians are very eastern. Ofcourse after many ages all mixed. Shakir(isn`t typical Russian name) was born in Ufa. There are more muslim`s churches than Orthodox`s churches.

thanks to our wikipedia guy.

If we talk about pronounce - when you see KH you should talk H.

It's not ethnically Russian. Lot of Tatars in that part of Russia, though.

Couple of things I noticed.
This guy is a really solid skater. Did not expect a guy of his size to have such a solid set of skates.
Has his fair share of defensive lapses. 2:19 was pretty bad, same with 3:55
At 9:20 I like his confidence from the point. Seemed to be a pretty solid shot that unfortunately got blocked.
10:20 was some great stickwork and defense from him. Overall I think that's one defensive area where he has impressed me in during this video.
Overall, showed some good, some bad. Made a couple of questionable pinches, blew one bad coverage. I'll chalk this one up to nerves after being drafted so high. Liked him in the offensive zone though. A couple of nice drop passes, a solid blast from the point, a very smooth skater and safe decision maker. I think as he keeps playing solid KHL minutes, he will gain a lot more confidence in the offensive zone to do some riskier stuff.

Have you guys already decided whether our future was forfeited by this pic or if there could be light at the end of tunnel or should i come back again when there is 20 pages in this thread?

He’s certainly got a rocket of a shot when he lets it fly and skated well. Defensive consistency seems to be an issue, but he is 18 in a pro league getting a decent amount of minutes and a big step up from what he was getting last year

I’m still not a big fan of the pick. It’s definitely a swing for the fences, and I like it more than I initially did...but we’ll see

Every time I watch him play, he reminds me a lot of Malakhov. Similar size, very similar skating with that hunched over look. Even defensively, despite their size, they both like to do a lot of poke checking and probably not enough hitting. Both have some brain farts too at times defensively. Similar offensive upside for this kid I think...he can one day get you 30+ points but I dont see him being a #1 PP guy...more on the 2nd PP unit where he can use his shot.

Definitely has to work on his defensive play. Offensively he can improve too.

This is where I wanted a home run pick, they went for it and I'm quite happy. If he pans out and one of Misyul/Okhotyuk/Vukojevic pan out NJ has a scary looking back end for years to come. I would be paying for the best defensive development coach possible in Binghamton moving forward.

I mean it's not going to be fun to type out unless there is an agreed upon short hand version, but I will say I'm glad all the letters serve a purpose.

Too often you see these crazy long names and try to sound it out only to be told half the letters don't matter and it's pronounced "Phil." At least all his letters are pulling their weight and have a job to do. Weird topic, but I respect that.

Of course he will say that after the fact. He’s not going to say that a Ranger was their first player so they went to a backup. Fact is nobody knows and nobody knows how any of the 31 players will end up in a few years..it’s all a gamble and we all hope our players hit the lotto.
Everbody has their own preferences. Not everbody loves Kakko, Schneider and Jack Johnson.

Since the 2019 draft we've added Vukojevic, McCarthy, Misyul, Okhotyuk, Bahl and now Mukhamadullin. People aren't wrong for thinking that adding 6 big and mediocre guys when there are better options out there is a bad thing.
In today's NHL you win with tiny floaters. Look how Tampa and Toronto dominates. :sarcasm:
Tampa actually traded for Coleman and Goodrow to have an alternative for the floaters. Johnson and Gourde are the pieces they try to move.
You need skill, but you also need size and toughness. The more versatile the roster is the better.
