WJC: SF Pre-Game Discussion

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Its certainly not a sure thing, I think I mentioned anything can happen in this tournament, but the US hasn't looked very impressive this tournament other than running up the score against the bottom teams.

They beat Canada but were clearly outplayed and the Swedes easily beat them even though the score was close.

Russia and Sweden look like the better teams out of the 4 so I expect the to win easily but with 17-19 year olds odd things can happen and with a one game knock out tournament anyone can have a good/bad game and be out.

I really thought you were being sarcastic in your first post. To each their own I suppose.

USA (5-1) and FIN (5-4) in the finals.
 
Well, jinxing and jinxing: if it would have been Sweden today instead of a nervy and uncertain Canada, I think they would have made minced meat out our super-disorganized defence and would not have been as weak as the Canadians in their end. It would have ended like 7-4 or something like that.

Of course, Monday is a new day and maybe we FINALLY will have an organized, tight defence in which case it will be a tight match, but if not, Sweden will most certainly crush us.

Yep it is really hard for me to think Finland would beat both SWE and USA. However if the route is to beat Sweden at semis and Russia in the final, Finland could win gold. So with SWE & USA route, I don't see us winning gold.
 
Four great teams lead by youngsters, should be two great games. The US I think is well-suited to play one-line teams like Finland, with Werenski being head and shoulders above the rest of the US D, although Borgen and Belpedio are extremely solid.

Obviously I'm rooting for the US, but I'd love to see a US-Finland final. Matthews and Tkachuk versus Puljujarvi and Laine in the latter's home country, that would be awesome.

Well Sweden suffer alot from Injurys so i think it will be a hard game against Finland.

Even tho im pretty sure USA will completely destroy Russia.

But really, crowd/tv ratings must be wayyyy lower foran early game.
 
Finland vs Sweden is a very tight game! Finlands first line is a dream! And i can not wait to see them in NHL.

USA is a favorite vs Russia and could to take Gold!
But i believe the Finns do that ;)!

However, Söderström won't stand on his head this time, and sweden will lose 3-1 or similar.

U.S is by far the best team in the tournament and it's not really close.
 
Sweden has really improved since the US game but maybe the US have aswell? I've not seen anymore games from them.
 
I have all the faith in Finnish coach Jalonen. He knows the process of a tournament games so well. I believe the Finnish team continues to grow and they will leave Sweden outplayed and outcoached.

USA won't have any problems with the Russian team. None whatsoever.
 
Wtf why would you even choose the early game finland? Now i have to eat my game-time snacks before we even eat dinner... You just can't do anything right.

awesome games. Sweden will be very hard, almost impossible to beat if we continue to make same defensive mistakes again. Kähkönen better start the game. i don't have to be scared every time when puck is in our zone when he is guarding the net.
 
Sweden will win Finland pretty easily. Russia will be toughest game for USA in this tournament. If they win it i think they take it all. I wouldn't count Russia out against USA. They're big, strong and really skilled team.
 
Finnish offence is stacked and so much deeper, luckily

finland is the biggest team btw
