He's being outplayed by the Leafs 2021 57th overall pick Matthew Knies while being drafted 1st overall in 2022.

Players around the league are going to look at his stats and use his 7.6M x 8 contract extension as a comparable. GM's around the league are going to be hanging up the phones.
Sure, just like every GM would love to trade Slaf for Knies if they could. :help:

I am just not a fan of the Habs rebuild. It seems like they have wiffed on a lot of pieces so far (Slaf, Reinbacher) and I still don't see a #1 center in the system. I am also not sold on this Hutson #1 D talk he's too small.
Suzuki is a top 10 scoring centre, 1C is not a problem

2C is more of an issue right now

Not sure how you can say Slaf and Reinbacher were whiffs at this point, Reinbacher hasn’t even played in the NHL yet lol

Hutson is elite

Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Kotkaniemi, Caufield never progressed past 20 years old. Suzuki did, but Slafkovsky is looking more like the first 4 than the last one. I don't think anyone in the province still expects Slafkovsky to ever be a star player but if he can become a 25g30a 250 hits player then it's fine that's super worth a 1st overall pick in a starless draft, but he needs to shoot a LOT more. I think if he continues to shoot 100-150 times a year and score 10-15 goals per year he will remain a worthless 3rd liner. Gonna be up to him
You never watched Caufield play, admit it.

Yet their number 1C has won more playoffs rounds than piggy boy

That 57th OA pick is also outscoring your 13 mil captain so what's your point?

Brady Tkachuk, Michkov, Cooley instead they got Kotkaniemi, Reinbacher, Slafkovsky
Kotkaniemi wasn’t drafted during the rebuild so it’s a little disingenuous to bring him up. They had finished 1st in the Atlantic the previous season and most people were seeing them taking Zadina. Saying Tkachuk was the obvious choice is revisionism.

As for Reinbacher, he just missed more than half a season. Nothing points to him being a flop so far. He’s a d-man. Any hockey fan should know better than settling a forward/dman debate after 60 games.

Will Slaf be better than Cooley? Maybe not. Is he more useful that his points total indicate? Yes. Does his style of power forward play take more time to polish? Yes. Is this thread premature? You bet.

No he isn’t? Slaf played more games than Knies despite Knies outscoring him.

But the fact you think he is emphasizing my point. He’s outplaying Slaf.

If you’re talking about goals only then even Nick Robertson is outscoring your first overall pick and Knies is as good as McDavid!

I was talking about total points. Slaf only has 10 goals this season, quite a few players having more goals than him so that wouldn’t be a big accomplishment to point out only goals.

Someone who has never experienced the perfect McFries.
Not a knock, even the timeframe on them is very short. We're talking minutes.

Imagine them, but with chicken, cheese, buffalo sauce

Again, not the perfect poutine, f***ing far from it

But I always take that as the side

Kotkaniemi was completely off the board. Tkachuk was the consensus pick, even Habs fans were pissed about it. I think you're confused, it was between him and Zadina but given the bloodline and his play style everyone wanted Tkachuk. Kotkaniemi wasn't even projected to be a top 15 pick that year.

Doesn't matter where they finished, it was a horrendous pick the moment it was made. That's like Toronto drafted Puljujarvi over Matthews and then going and saying "oh they weren't rebuilding so it justifies the bad off the board pick"

Reinbacher again, was completely off the board. Michkov was the projected 2nd overall, he only dropped because of the Russia factor, but passing on him to go off the board with Reinbacher was a huge mistake. Simashev would've been a better pick if they wanted a D-man.

Cooley plays C and was higher on almost everyones rankings pre-draft. Slaf had a really good WJC but he was still the consensus 4 pick. Most of your fans attacked me in a thread last year because I said Cooley > Slaf and they made a mistake, it looks even more obvious now.

I know this is not what this thread is about but the bolded part is completely false. Zadina was the pick everyone wanted, very few habs fan wanted Tkachuk. Tkachuk was seen as the safe pick, old school, boring pick.

Kotkaniemi was a late surger, but he was not that big of a reach. He was 5th on Bob McKenzie's list. He was goign top 5 or 6 even if he habs weren't picking him. He was a bad pick in hindsight, but he was not a ridicoulus reach on draft day. He was a consensus top 5 pick by that point.

So yeah, everything about that paragraph is false.

For me, that's like putting delicious BBQ sausages on top of a great steak.
Both are awesome, but I like to keep them simple and separate to maximize their deliciousness.

Of course, to each their own. I'm not a food snob, and you can eat and enjoy whatever you want, especially if you paid for it.

Certainly I'd take some McFries with chicken, cheese curds (that hopefully squeak), and buffalo sauce, if they are no longer in their optimal small time window.
It's a shame we don't have them out here now. We have some Rator chicken nacho ones that don't sound very interesting to me. I'm more interested in Harvey's Frings poutine.

Anyway, I think I'll end my culinary thread highjacking at this point...

I would 100% try that lol

He's elevated himself out of the realm of "Worst 1OA ever" at this point.

So, you know, progress has been made.

Edit: The harsh reality is the 2022 may end up as the worst draft in recent memory. That might mitigate the awfulness of the Habs drafting a 45 pt left-winger with the 1OA pick.
