31 teams missed out on Lankinen.

Also these sort of crazy goaltending stories happen every year. Last year Connor Ingram was the hottest thing since sliced bread. This year, not so much.

It’s voodoo. No different than making your bets on roulette and seeing what happens on the wheel.
And how many people suggested Lankinen prior to this year? No one. And how many people suggested Ingram prior to last year? No one.

It’s easy to say we should have got that guy when the performances and stats are already out there. It’s all hindsight is 20/20 stuff here.

Most of the time opponent broadcast get a good feel for how mediocre he plays but it's astounding how the Oilers encourage elevate him to the 7th wonder of modern hockey.

Completely disillusional.
TRouble as well is that Debrusk is so completely delusional about Skinner. He sells up any stop he makes as if its his job. Any Oilers game he's making it sound as if Skinner is our best player saving us. Its beyond bizarre. But I think fans that heed that in some way figure there might be something to how the org and telecast prop Skinner. For no reason really. He's the worst starter anytime we've had since Ty Conkln. Fundamentaly he's worse. he's just big, thats his one big skill.

I have exactly what I want right now though. In my 30 years of oilers hockey, I’ve never had a team I prefer over this one.

And that’s a team that has a realistic and good chance at a Cup. As they did last year. As they do again this year.

Do you think there’s a team that can garantee a Cup? Doesn’t exist. But if that’s your expectation, yes you will be disappointed. Even if that team was a goal away from a Cup, it’ll never be good enough for you.

You can gauruntee shitting away Cups if you're going to let it all ride on a guy who is showing you again and again who he is but you refuse to listen. When people tell you who they are, believe them the first time, but if you're that guillable that you want to keep believing after multiple red flags, well you get what you deserve I guess.

This guy is not near the bottom for save percentage and GSAA for starters in this league (with 15 starts or more) by accident.

Also the 2006 Oilers would beat this team with Roloson in because it's a massive advantage to have an actual goalie. In no way was that team better than the 2006 Red Wings, the reason we beat them is because Roloson was way, way, way better than their version of Stuart Skinner (Manny Legace).

It is voodoo. But we know our voodoo duo isn't good enough. So it's imperative to try someone different.

I’m going to tell you this now, again.

We were not finding a starting goalie this offseason. Unless we were in on Kuemper or Ullmark, it wasn’t happening.
We? I sure would've replaced Skinner 2yrs ago. This org does sleep on the goalie file though. I'm probably not a realist in this regard. yeah, unfortunately I knew Skinner was staying on. I sure didn't like it.

He moves like a 80 year old man in net. He’s not talented at all, he actually has the least amount of goaltender talent you can have.

Ben Scrivens who legit probably got screwed by this team going Eakins had more natural talent than Skinner does.

Koskinen maybe even too (not by much but still).

Again? Hasn't the goaltending graveyard filled up already?

Maybe it's time to address the actual problem.
Yeah fire Dustin Schwartz too while we are at it.

Why are you so terrified of the prospect of adding a goalie to compete with Skinner?

Yes, let’s trade assets and cap space for a goalie that may or may not get the oilers as far as Skinner and Pickard did last year

Skinner didn't get the Oilers anywhere last year. He rode coat tails to the finals.

Lots of people were talking about Lankinen. I think it was Serevalli who called it the sleeper pick up of the "off-season" when the Canucks acquired him.

And with $8M elite goalies you can’t garantee shit either. See Helly in the playoffs. But we’re not even in the stratosphere to be able to afford a Helly, at best an Oettinger at $4-5M. And guess what, Skinner outplayed Oettinger in a head to head.

There are no guarantees for anything in this league. You build the best team you can and get the best chance you can. That’s what we have right now and that’s why we went to game 7 of the cup and are STILL the odds on favorite to win it all again, this year.

Maybe those chances improve with another dice roll goalie, or maybe it doesn’t. I know you won’t be able to know just picking some guy in the $3M range though. I can guarantee that.

Oh I'm not just talking about Schwartz. I'm taking about purging the entire scouting staff.

I'm terrified of the Oilers trading Skinner away and adding some piece of garbage in return like Anderson or Reimer.
