Leafs take some added risk with the length of the contract but Jones is young and has a good track record. Solidifies the Leafs D, saves space. And Leafs would in turn better allocate money for a forward and well balanced roster. Tavares could actually be flipped in 1-2 years. With some serious retention. And yield extra assets for the Hawks for a rebuild. JT is still a solid player. Despite struggling this year is still a sub ppg player.

The trick is to find a 6 or 7 year deal elsewhere to set up a deal.

Weber and Subban both had huge deals and got dealt for one another. Lucic and Neal had similar deals, too. It can work, it's just hard to find a good fit for everyone.
