If Jones wants to go to San Jose, Chicago can trade for Marc Edouard Vlasic + picks/prospects

There's also Shea Weber, but I doubt Jones waives to play in Montreal.

There's also zero chance Montreal would trade Weber's LTIRetired contract for Jones.

Because he may want out.
That might be a premature assumption; he may be more willing to go through a rebuild in Chicago than he was in Columbus, simply because he specifically chose to go there (one of the frequent points used by folks to whine about Bowman/heap praise upon Kekalainen was the report that apparently Chicago was one of three teams he'd waive his no-trade clause for, and the others - Colorado and Dallas, IIRC - weren't interested).

With full cap hit?
He’d bring back nothing of value in return

This is such a common thing on this board despite basically every piece of evidence being contrary to it. Like man, the Hawks aren't going to get *anything* for Keith. Going to have to pay a team to take him and retain.

NHL GMs are stupid and fans are always wrong. Bowman signed him to that deal. Dallas probably would have signed him to that deal if they got him. There will be a market for Seth Jones if he's available. And he absolutely should be bc CHI doesn't need a 32/33-year-old Seth Jones coming out of a rebuild.

Dallas and Colorado were both interested. Colorado couldn't sign him to an extension, so there packages reflected that. It was basically between CHI and DAL and hooray, CHI won...

If his points are “Star” why is his offense “Fringe” for 2021 and similar question for 2022?
Because the Blackhawks are one of the worst teams at generating chances and offense. But still they score a lot(I guess saying a lot is even a stretch) on less chances be it PP or the magic of Kane.

If you put Jones on a top team I'd bet that his analytics would look elite. His teams have never been better than a low end playoff team.

Seth Jones isn’t bringing back anything of real value.
This is 8 years at over 9 million, not a year or 2 type of deal.

Zero contenders have space for a contract like this

This contract never made any sense since the day it was signed and now im just laughing. It has negative value and its long af. I guess he will just stick around and get evaluated another day.

How much are the Hawks retaining on him? That contract is virtually unmovable. Combined with the Signing bonuses and the NMC. I can't see any team wanting to take that on without major retention from the Hawks side.

Sharks have no interest in Jones even if it means getting rid of Vlasic. They already have EK and Burns as well as Merkley coming up who looks good and deserves a chance.

This is a contract that the Hawks will have to live with.
Really, the need another lockout and a compliancy buyout within the next 4-5 seasons.

Montreal aren't trading the remainder of Weber's contract for 8 years of $9.5 million. No need to worry whether or not Jones would waive.

Someone mentioned Dallas. They are likely one of the few that might bite. If Klingberg walks and Chicago eats that Seguin deal I could see Dallas giving some futures.

Still not an ideal situation

So, rumors are that the Hawks are going to talk to their top players and ask if they want to stick around. If Jones asks for a trade, what can the Hawks get back in a deal?

This is his player card from Dom L. this year

It all depends if they only want picks and prospects. I think the TML would be all over him. Obviously one of the big 4 would need to move but we need a workhorse like Jones.

Who cares what contenders are going to do? Seth Jones doesn't need to go to a contender. He needs to go to a team that thinks Seth Jones helps them get closer to a contender/playoff status. Plus money has a funny way of opening up in the summer.

I think the suggestion of sending him to Toronto for Nylander has some merit, but really, any team with a good forward core (right now, not in the pipeline) should be interested, and the key issue will be making the cap work.

Cap works if a Nylander for Jones trade were to get done in the summer. Wouldn't even require Toronto to move a contract.

The problem is that Kyle hates Kyle.
