The Rangers are coming off two very tough series. Neither team has an advantage.

People can bring up anything they want, but in the end every series is a totally unique entity that is near impossible to predict. The NHL has true parity.

I have my opinion and you have yours which I respect. If you watch some of the post game interviews with some of the Canadiens players, you would have thought they won the cup already. According to Subban, since they best Boston, nobody else can beat them. That's the fine line of a letdown I'm talking about.

you're making the same mistakes as Habs fans who think it's going to be easy, for the same reason probably, you havent watched the other team all that much, you don't know a lot about the opponent's players.

thinking this is a win because the other team is "worse" is foolish IMO, neither team are bad cause they dont have a Gretzky or Lemieux on it you know...

you're getting fooled by the fact there isnt much star power on our team, Sorry! not every team has Malkin AND Crosby on it! besides, it's not like you guys have much star power either... and it doesnt make you any less deserving of playing this 3rd round ;)

my take ? winner will be the team who's defensive corp handle the opponent's speed better. And it's hard to predict wich corp it will be as they're both experienced.

if you guys are into specifics, you might want to look for Eller, Bournival and Gallagher, they may not be known as much as Subban or Price, but they're damn efficient at what they do... besides, Gallagher (shut down line, RW) and Eller (3rd line C) are our forwards with the most points.

I don't really think i'm making any mistakes scouting the team's we are playing, thus far. Knew Philadelphia was a good match for us despite the fact that they would muck it up and might take a couple games as a result of that. I knew the Pitt series would eventually favor us because of our open style of hockey.

Whether the Rangers advance to the SCF or not is entirely up to them. Montreal could play better for them, for all that matters, but it wouldn't be as a result of them being the better team - if that makes sense.

I like Eller, for what its worth. Subban killed the Bruins last series and it's definitely been exciting watching his maturation from when he came into the NHL. You're right, I don't necessarily watch the most Canadians games - but from what i've seen which is about a 20 game sample size, they see like a worse version of our team, on paper. Vanek is a Bruin killer, and that trend continued. He's not a big Rangers killer.

While not trying to take away anything from the success of your team, while they took down the giant in a quite a satisfying way, a few luckier bounces for the Bruins would have potentially topedoed your team's success.

Additionally, this was your chief rival. Subban cites Lucic and Thornton tactics as the motivation that put them over the top. Can you see anyone on the Rangers incising your team to that degree? You can argue that Henrik sprayed Crosby in the face with his water bottle, similar to what Thornton did, but the Pens are one of our biggest foes, and Crosby and Lundqvuist have a history of ill will. I can't say that anyone on our team really has hateful intentions towards anyone on your team... and our coach will jam discipline down our throats, especially for a team that he not only wants personal revenge against, but one that doesn't really symbolize anything significant to our team and fan base, emotionally.

I don't think it'll be an easy series for either team, nor did I ever say that. But if the Rangers continue to play inspired and urgent hockey... the better team will be clearly indicative. If the Rangers team comes out playing like the team that came out in games 2-4 against Pittsburgh... Montreal will take a stranglehold of the series.

Not taking anything away from your team, but I thought the Rangers were the 2nd best team in the East before the playoffs even started, 2nd only to Boston because of how bad we matched up against them. I ranked Pitt 3rd and Montreal 4th. IMO, this is the Rangers' series to lose, as it was theirs to lose in round 1 and 2 against opponents that I thought we were better than. This series is no different in my eyes, for the Rangers.

Great post, I agree 100% on what you said

No one overlooks anyone at this stage of the game.
I hear you. I will say at this point no team will "overlook" another team consciously. They will
however, feel the did beat the "best team in the league" and naturally think they will have that "cakewalk" against us.

montreal coach "we just beat the best team in the league"

im telling you, theyre gonna overlook us. this series is gonna be letdown city for them.

Can't imagine playing "the New York Rangers" as ever being a letdown though. As evidence to our poor home record almost year in and year out. They will think they are walking on water, while we'll be skating right past them on "ice".

This is a good test for Hank. It's time to exercise his demons...

In Hank's career he's won 4 games at the Bell Centre and lost 5.

His numbers in that place are more of a reflection on the teams play in front of him, rather than him being personally unable to play in a specific opposing teams arena.

Remember the game back on Jan 15, 2011 when Hank went nuts on Pacioretty for crashing into him? He was on fire that game. 38 saves on 41 shots. They lost 3-2 but he was on fire that whole game. Vintage Hank.

He will be in the same mode for these playoffs. This stage is where he thrives. He always has.

Watch and see.

Still really happy the Rangers got 3 days off to rest up after playing such a crappy schedule

Word. Yeah I think it's a more recent thing and because the Rangers have played poorly in Montreal in general. Hopefully that will change

They used to play horribly in Pittsburgh as well didn't they? Yet they won key games there this postseason.

Wow, awesome post. Thanks for taking the time to post what I feel. Can't wait to hear what the Milsbury dough boy and Keith Jones have to say about our Rangers after we've dispersed of their choir boys in Pittsburgh. Now, it's Rangers/Canadiens. Go-ahead. Overlook us, like PK and company might be. Lol.

For me one of the potentially interesting questions for this series will be whether or not AV was willing to play Talbot in the Montreal games if Henrik has poor performances in game 1, or games 1 and 2.

The obvious immediate reactionary answer is no, but if Talbot performs better in Montreal, you have to consider it and let Henrik benefit from the extra rest.

I don't disagree with your point. I just think it ceases to be a factor once the game starts.

An old coach of mine once told me " the best way to keep winning is being afraid to lose". At first it was like what is talking about but then it set in. Its a mentality you need to have to keep winning. If you are patting yourself on the back then you have already lost that edge. Think about Boyle's comment after Game 7, we haven't accomplished anything yet except winning 8 games

Just like Bon Jovi said

Halfway there. We can debate about the living on a prayer stuff.

8 wins and 8 to go. It no longer matters what you think of whom. It no longer matters who was traded for whom. It no longer matters what sample size you use to evaluate this team. We can rehash all of these questions in the off season. There will be plenty of time to evaluate trades and performance latter. What matters now is that the Rangers are in the ECF. And are close enough to smell it. What matters is that the Habs are a very, very good team that just caused the exit of what many considered to be the best team in hockey.

I remember 1979. And who was the Habs goalie. Maybe there is some serendipity in that Henke is poised to take this place among such greats as one of the greatest big game goalies of memory. I remember 1994 and what it meant to me as a long suffering Rangers fan. I also remember the LOD running roughshod over the Rangers in another incarnation.

This team showed more guts and fortitude than I ever thought possible. Forget about coming back from 3-1 down for the first time in franchise history. They came back from being shut out in back to back games with an absolute vengeance. Having what in my mind is the best goalie on the planet helps, but every one contributed. Every one showed heart and a new determination. Yes, that even includes Nash who is playing in a way previously unseen. Yes, he needs to score. No doubt about that. But if Crosby still gets lauded for effort, then so too does Nash.

Richards is currently showing himself to be Big Game Brad. Staal was an absolute beast. He can play on any top pair in the league. I could care less how many points he scores. Pay him market value for a top-pairing defenseman, make him Captain and call it a day. Another name to mention is Boyle. Let's not quibble about his dollars. I would rather overpay him than underpay some journeyman 4th liner and then spend even more money in subsequent years trying to replace what Boyle brings. His contributions in the playoffs are invaluable and he truly raises his level in the post season.

And off course, Henke. Can the conversations now end about his level or just how good he is? Arguably the best in the league (as the song says, to me he is simply THE BEST), Best Rangers goalie that I ever recall. And that includes one that backstopped the '94 team. And for my money also includes Eddie.

The team played in a way that any Rangers fan would be proud of . They truly left it all out on the ice in the comeback. And, for my money, sticking it to Cindy is the icing on the cake.

Halfway. The Habs are a very, very good team. LGR!
