They aren't going to be able to outright stop Subban, just like they can't outright stop Malkin. It's about containing him and staying out of the box.

A lot of Montreal's games against Boston were about weathering the storm in their own zone, then breaking out with odd man rushes. That means we'll need creativity from our forwards to break down their defense. We should have much more puck possession than against Pittsburgh, and that should aid the Brassard unit.

Yeah, Rangers have to be aware of Montreal's speed and not get caught giving up odd man rushes a lot. Got to consistently get good chances on Price and create traffic in front.

I dunno really what will happen here but I think if Nash and St Louis finally show up consistently then the Rangers take this series. If they continue to struggle then it's a toss up at best.

e: Subban is good but if you can take away his shot as much as possible you're taking away the most dangerous part of his game. Rangers just have to be aware of that.

I agree with some of other posters about Price. He plays really well against the Rangers. If memory serves correct, in his last 5 starts against the Rangers, Price has let in only 2 goals and has 3 shutouts.

He will probably pose a bigger challenge than Emery, Mason, or Fleury, and the Rangers can't let Price get in their heads. The skaters have to find more consistency in their offensive game - no more botched 2-on-1s, no more wide shots, no more reluctance to crash the net. The effort and execution have to be there to beat Price.

Yep, Rangers suck against Price. I hope that changes.

No one overlooks anyone at this stage of the game.

I dunno about that. Habs and Bruins has always been an overhyped thing and with the Bruins being touted as the clear cut best team in the east, I can see the Habs letting their guard down after beating them and thinking they'll handle the Rangers easily. The thing would be that the Rangers have to take advantage of that and not let the Habs come out and dictate the game.

The getting into their heads is big I think. The big reason why they've struggled in Montreal and against Price, just in their heads and frustrated about it.

It's the playoffs, it's a different animal, they gotta just go out and play their game

Gotta say Mason was pretty ****ing good. He impressed the hell out of me, other than his rebound control. Price can hit that level for sure, its scary. They need to get in his kitchen.

What is starting to make Montreal a very dangerous team is guys like Weise getting on the score sheet...often.

Top lines are being somewhat negated and it's bottom 6 guys that are stepping up.

Montreal is not paper tough guys like Phlly Cryers

Montreal is not top heavy like the ****sburgh Femguins

Montreal is not big and heavy like the Bruins

Montreal is alot like the Rangers, deep, tenacious, solid in net and a different kind of dangerous at the blue line.

All four centers on both teams may not be great, but for what is asked of them, they do well.

The Rangers are still getting comfortable with having a full squad which up until game 4 against Pitt they had not had in well over a month.

Being able to ice this line up

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Richards - MSL
Pouliot - Brassard - Zuccs
Boyle - Moore - Dorsett

and having all three lines looking to be difference makers game in and game out makes the Rangers a very tough team.

They have to get over what ever mind **** playing in Montreal has on them and thety have to do that in game one.

Different team, different challenges.

No one likes to look in the mirror at an opponent. Should be an epic series.

I mentioned on the main board but it might also be fun to look for Kreider vs. Subban. With the way Kreider forechecks and hits and plays in the dirty areas, and with how Subban is also a chippy player, I could see something get started there like Kreider had going with Phaneuf this year.

I disagree, if they think they beat the best team, this series to them will be a cake walk for them in their minds. The whole progression of winning in the playoffs is never taking your foot off the pedal. That series took a lot of emotion out of them and energy, very similar to the 7 game series two years ago we had with the Caps.

It's not just Price this Rangers team has a way of making most goalies look like world beaters. Geez they made Mason, Emery and Fluery look like brick walls at various points in these playoffs alone.

I love how everyone is bent over because MTL beat Boston...you do know the rangers just beat the second best team in the east while being down 3-1

Bring on the house of horrors.

This team has got to be one of the best "all-time" road warriors. Regardless of the actual statistics of it all, this team just seems to not even be fazed by it. If you're not going to be a dominant team at home and prance through the regular season as a "top seed", then being a great road warrior is a great option.

Now that it's the PO's........win at home with more regularity and continue to beat the odds by doing what they've done ALL YEAR.......win on the road. New season here, New series and beating the Habs, after their grueling series with Boston should result in a better result than expected. "They" are not God's gift to the NHL hockey world.

They should be just as concerned about playing us.........as we fans are worried about losing to them. No worries here. Bring it on, we got this. As far as I'm concerned now, it's U.S.A. vs Canada. Let's do this.

Even if they took anything for granted, that disappears very quickly unless they steamroll the Rangers and I doubt that will happen.

In any case, all of this gains the Rangers nothing.

These 2 rosters are very similar. My initial thought is you can flip a coin.

If the Rangers can stay out of the box and make Subban/Markov play defense, they'll have a very good shot to go to the finals.

The Rangers are coming off two very tough series. Neither team has an advantage.

People can bring up anything they want, but in the end every series is a totally unique entity that is near impossible to predict. The NHL has true parity.

habs are a dangerous team. fast and offensively talented. defense is slow footed and can be beaten with speed. which we have.

im concerned with our lack of scoring and abysmal pp. we cant win games 1-0 or 2-1. we need to score on price. all those crossbars and posts will need to go in for us to win.

as good as we looked the last 3, games 2 and 3 were horrific. we better shoot with purpose on price. hes playing hank like right now and he is the best goaltender we will have faced so far, imo.

the habs are pretty disciplined so pp chances will be few and far, we need to cash when we have a chance.

their offense against our defense. thats the series.

if hank plays godlike (he is absolute trash in montreal) we have a chance in a long close 7 game series. if hank is off his game, we lose in 6 maybe 5.

all comes down to our shooters. simple as that. if we play like we did in games 2, 3 and most of 7, we lose. period.

im pretty stoked either way. :yo:

It's interesting. Everyone* thought Boston would be the team to beat but here's Montreal, in our way and having just put Boston down.

It will be a very challenging series, especially away, but the more I hear about it the more I think this is the year that things might be going our way. That the players, the system, the whole thing might be working together the way it has to to succeed in the playoffs. Still, we have to bear down and play our game, not let Montreal dictate or get opportunistic counters.

*not everyone.
