My sympathies, but unless you had very private access to his every thought, you can't know what kind of hell he was going through. Most people who get to that point feel like there is no other choice.

My grandparents offered to pay his travel back here and buy him a home so he could help out the family.

He chose suicide over the family

Sometimes 'coming home' and facing friends/family, especially if you feel like a failure, is the hardest thing to do. To be the one that doesn't live up to expectations, or to feel like a burden, to let everyone down...people you care the most about in the world. It's pretty hard.

The human mind is such a deep and murky place...it's almost impossible to really know what someone else is going through.

I can understand the anger, though. When you've gone through so much and triumphed over your demons, and you see someone else who doesn't appear as strong, it's hard to empathize.

Give it time. There was probably a whole lot more going on in his life, and in his mind, that anyone knows.

Did you know that there was such a thing as Zamrock? Psychadelic rock bands that sprouted up in Zambia during the '70's, making their own little scene, combining elements of African folk music and Hendrix style fuzz epics?

It's true.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/22/zamrock-zambia-music-rerelease

The story of Zamrock starts, as so many other things in the modern history of Zambia, with exploitation of ore from the Copperbelt region. Under colonialism, as Zambia's kingdoms merged into one centrally ruled polity, political, economic, and social change rocked the country. Mass migration into Zambia's rich mining districts, meant musicians had a sudden exposure to different musical styles. Traditional instruments – from drums (such as the high-pitched "talking" vimbuzza) to stringed instruments (like the babatone) to the kalimba (hand piano) – joined with instruments such as the accordion and guitar, which were brought into the country by the British ruling classes.

And it's pretty cool: Africa - Amanaz (1975). Listening to that entire album, very impressed. Good stretch from track four to eight that is remarkable. Haven't explored much else though.

Best wishes to you and your family, Fuhr.

Death in the family is always tough, regardless of how it happened.

My uncle committed suicide this evening out in BC
I feel bad for my grandparents having to deal with that stress.
Selfish ******* who deserves a punch in the face... I wish I could bring him back and do that.

Does not deserve to have the last name Fuhr

I am sorry to hear that Fuhr and extend my condolences too. I think your uncle must have had some serious issues and i am sorry he could not find help to address them. When death happens, it truly makes one think about life and also about comforting those who are suffering the loss.

Coincidentally, I finished watching it today, too. Very satisfied with the ending. Looking forward to rewatching it to see how the ending changes my perspective on the show.

It is total ****ing ******** that True Detective is being put in the drama category for the Emmys. It should be in the ****ing mini-series category instead.

I just saw Arcade Fire in Brooklyn. The Barclays center is freaking gorgeous, I can't wait till there's hockey there.

Dude that's awesome. I was there when they shot their album launch video thingy at Salsatheque in Montreal last year. Been a fan of theirs for years. Might go to their big show here next week if I can get a ticket from someone.

Won soccer tourney today. Major cashpay. Played with torn ligament and fractured knee cartilage on same leg.

Go big or go home.

Oh yeah? Well, I tripped on my ottoman yesterday on the way to the bathroom, and fell over into my dining room, moderately bruising both my elbow AND my knee.

You have been one-upped, sir.
