Buying cars has become astoundingly painful.

I'm exercising the purchase option on my lease, buying an extended warranty and hopefully not speaking to a salesperson for the next 5 years.
It has. I had a good experience while almost getting scammed at Otto's.

My car had a bumper repair, and a CarFax report because naturally I had insurance pay for my repair. I had a 2020 M340xi, low mileage , great condition. They buyout of the lease was 40K. I was debating getting another 340, but eventually decided that I would rather have a bigger, more comfy car, and looked at a 5 series. Otto's offered to buy me out and do me a favour because the car has no value due to the damagind CarFax..

Elite BMW had the same info and gave me 46K. So that was that. Got a new 530xi and I love it to bits. Have to get used to the power, but honestly, it is absolutely sufficient for that and I have other cars for speed. Hell, Star Motors offered me 47.

So I went back to Otto's, played dumb, talked to the manager in front of the used car manager and salesman and embarrassed them. They got greedy, called them on it, and they have basically lost someone who changes cars quite often.

So yeah, I understand the frustration! But Elite BMW were outstanding if anyone is looking for a BMW...

It's gotten outrageous. Dealers are just bending every rule in the book to make a quick buck and don't get me started about markups on new vehicles...

Buyout on my 2020 S4 is $32,000. It has 16,000 miles on it and similar trims are selling for $45,000 to $55,000. No brainer.

Would love another electric (Electrified Genesis GV70 looks amazing) but it's not worth the hassle.

How does putting your finger back in its joint make you a hero? Ive done that since highschool with my one finger.

Low bar.
I wrote the author to admonish them. They promised me a re-write, naming you as the true hero and Michael as a softy

That is incredible equity on a lease, isn't it? The world has gone mad...

Tell me about it. I just test drove another one and test drove a 2017 m3. The prices of these cars just keep running up on me. I would have slam dunk paid you 46k no problem would have easily saved me 14k +. I can afford it I just am having a hard time justifying it in my brain lol.

I expect the used car market to cool off a bit but I still probably have $8,000-$12,000 of equity in it. Crazy.

I'm just going to buy a Rolex instead of putting money towards a new car. At lease that holds its value!

New M3s are running like US$80,000 at this point. The funny part is that it's still less than a loaded F-150. And that's the US - car prices in Canada are just awful.

If you want a similar car at a "slight" discount I might suggest the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing. You can save money if you buy it stick and I think it's one of the coolest cars you can buy. Just have to get over the old man brand idenity.

I was looking between last gen M3 and new gen M340i both in the similar price range, will probably end up with the 340 cause I love it. I'll see how my next few months go heading in the spring/summer and decide. Those CT4s are awesome but I just love BMW they own my heart.

My Rolex Sub is worth double, and this just in 4 years. Rolexes are a great investment...and they look and feel nice!

Behind you, look out
The luxury watch market is at its peak. Expect it to tank soon.
You can tell when a market peaks when crime related to the industry sky rockets. In England they have signs telling people to not wear watches in public anymore.

Also, remember, if you sell something for more than you paid, you have to pay capital gains on it.

Secondary market prices have already dropped like a stone. You had people spending nearly $20,000 on Subbies and Royal Oaks were going for 6 figures. Completely ridiculous.

Retail pricing hasn't actually gone up too much but the issue remains supply. Rolex especially has become a major headache since they stopped selling direct to consumer.

I have an authorized retailer willing to sell me a Deep Sea for MSRP (~$15,000) but they have no idea if or when they'll have it in stock. Could be years.

I wonder if my 15 year old, $40 Japanese replica of a Rolex Submariner is now worth $160?

Snitches get stitches

I buy fossil watches when I visit the outlet in Ottawa for $50 and feel like a big spender.
A real man has Jomashop book marked on every device.

Don't bookmarks on Chrome automatically appear on all your devices?
Ya but what about people up on burners ? Or people who don't use their google log in on every device ? I don't discriminate, everyone should have Jomashop bookmarked.
